“Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions” To Be Released in German

Pottermore Publishing and Audible today announced the expansion of the bestselling Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions into German, following the critical and commercial success of the English-language releases. The English series concludes today with the seventh and final audiobook release, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Full-Cast Edition). The first German-language edition, Harry Potter und der Stein der Weisen, will be released on November 10, 2026, with each of the remaining six audiobooks releasing monthly. The series features over 150 German voice actors and actresses who contributed more than 2,000 hours of studio recording, with the German-speaking cast to be announced soon. These new editions have been designed to engage long-time Harry Potter fans, while also introducing the stories to a whole new generation of listeners.
The English-language audiobook series debuted in November 2025, selling over one million units in its first 30 days. The series swept The New York Times’ bestseller list, with the six available titles claiming the top six spots on the children’s audio list in May 2026. Garnering remarkable global acclaim, the series has been called "the most ambitious audiobook(s) ever produced” (The Times, London), “akin to a Hollywood blockbuster” (The New York Times), and “an extravaganza of famous voices and sounds” (The Sydney Morning Herald).
Over 200 actors made the series a milestone in audio storytelling, including Hugh Laurie as Dumbledore, Matthew Macfadyen as Voldemort, and Keira Knightley as Professor Umbridge. The Harry Potter audio collection has been unprecedented in its popularity since launching on Audible in 2015, with over two billion global listening hours now reached. These brand-new productions of the original seven Harry Potter stories by J.K. Rowling showcase the listening experiences as never heard before, offering immersive audio entertainment through high-quality sound design in Dolby Atmos, stunning scoring, captivating performances from A-list actors, original music, and real-world sound capture.
Aurelie de Troyer, Head of Audible Content, International, says: "The response to the English editions exceeded even our highest expectations—the critical acclaim, the listener engagement, the industry recognition. As we reach the finale of these seven spectacular releases, it’s a pleasure to pass the baton to our German listening audience. We're collaborating with the finest talent in the German creative industry to ensure this isn't simply a translation, but a genuine cultural adaptation using brilliant local talent. Germany has one of the most passionate audiobook audiences in the world–plus enthusiastic Harry Potter fan communities–so we're invested in ensuring this production meets the incredibly high standards German listeners expect and deserve."
Jennie McCann, Managing Director of Pottermore Publishing, says: "For nearly thirty years, German fans have made Harry Potter one of the most beloved literary phenomena in the country. They deserve to experience these audiobooks in a format as ambitious and magical as the world J.K. Rowling created. The success of the English-language Full-Cast Editions demonstrated the appetite for truly immersive, cinematic audio storytelling, and we're thrilled to work with Audible to bring that experience to German-speaking audiences. We can’t wait for a new generation of children to discover the stories in this exciting new way.”
Audible's German-language production of Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions builds on the series' international success, raising the standards for audio entertainment in Germany. Like the English-language version, the project features elaborate sound design and an extensive production in Dolby Atmos. The production is further enriched by original music composed by Nitin Sawhney, recorded at the renowned Lyndhurst Hall Studios in London. Other acclaimed German full-cast Audible Originals include 1984 featuring Jannik Schümann, Cynthia Micas, and Stolz und Vorurteil starring Emilia Schüle and Aaron Altaras, among others.
With a long history of success across physical and digital formats, the Harry Potter audiobooks have become an integral part of German audiobook culture. The series has been an undisputed favorite among Audible listeners since 2015, when the audiobooks narrated by Felix von Manteuffel were released, and again in 2016 with the 10th-anniversary editions narrated by Rufus Beck. The full-cast German editions will complement these iconic single-voice recordings, which will continue to be available to listeners as classic editions.
The production is part of the long-standing collaboration between Audible and Pottermore Publishing, reflecting an ongoing commitment to German audiences. According to a study commissioned by Audible, 49 per cent of Germans regularly listen to audiobooks, radio plays or podcasts, an increase of three percent over the previous year and the ninth year of growth in a row. This emphasizes audio content’s deepening integration into daily life and the rising demand for premium-quality audio offerings.
The complete Harry Potter audiobook collection on Audible also includes Die Märchen von Beedle dem Barden, performed by Simone Kabst, Alexander Brem, Thomas Nicolai, and others; Quidditch im Wandel der Zeiten, performed by Rufus Beck, Gabriele Blum, and Anne Düe; Aus dem Zaubererarchiv, featuring Leonie Landa and others; and Phantastische Tierwesen und wo sie zu finden sind, performed by Timmo Niesner.
With star-studded casting planned for the German production, cast announcements and release dates will be shared soon.
