About this listen

Glenn Colby’s fishing vacation across the border begins with a wild bang when he picks up a sweet but insatiable little Mexican girl in a cantina on his way to Puerto de Angeles. Once Colby meets Tammy Kanakaredes in Puerto de Angeles, however, his plans change. Her desperate situation coupled with their passionate romantic entanglement leads to thoughts of murder. Looking for another way out, Colby contacts crime boss Don Miguel, and learns information which might give him the leverage he needs to both get the girl, and stay alive while he’s doing it. Filled with innuendo, unabashed romanticism and colorful locations, a complex little plot already in place begins to emerge that teaches Colby that nothing down Mexico way is a sure thing. You can feel Mexico in this one, right down to the fun references to an old Robert Mitchum film. The deadly confrontation on an ariel tram from the movie everyone in Puerto de Angeles has apparently seen might become prophetic once the exciting and action-filled climax of Pink Sangría rolls around. You’d be hard-pressed to find another story in this genre where every single character is this memorable: the proud but lonely woman of Aztec blood named Teiuc who runs the marina, and is Colby’s friend; the wiry and paranoid “sound” man named Charlie; rotund and powerful crime boss Don Miguel; Miguel’s sexy and endearingly young but poignantly damaged wife, Cassie; the delightfully unpretentious Mexican nymphomaniac, Calida; and finally, wealthy and cruel Stephanos Kanakaredes and his equally cruel henchman, Rick. And that’s just the beginning, in a romantic noir story as rich and resonating as it is fun to read. Pink Sangría reminds readers that noir can also be fun. A story destined to become a favorite of those who like their crime to touch all the right noir bases, but not wallow in the gutter. An unabashedly romantic modern noir, reminiscent of old-time 1940s film noir. Crime Crime Fiction Noir Latin America Mexico Exciting
