About this listen

Second Edition.

"A global masterpiece that will engross and engage you."

After stowing away as a boy to come to America around 1905, an Italian immigrant sculptor later stands firm in his love for an unfaithful woman. Trapped behind enemy lines during World War II, he and his family go on to save over 600 Allied troops. This is the epic multi-generational, true story of Salvatore Cartaino Scarpitta and family. His story was only partially told in a 1953 episode of This Is Your Life. Salvatore’s role in WWII is just one of the many stories found throughout this book. Beyond those, an extensive section on fathers not only ties these narratives together, but also puts many current-day tragedies into a context so we can try to more clearly understand their foundational causes.

This extensive audiobook is read by the author. Both Kindle and audiobook formats are highly recommended together. This audiobook is slightly abridged. The changed, abridged, or deleted parts of the book in this audiobook principally include: many of the footnotes, one Digression, some of the front matter, as well as the 13 appendices. That material, as well as the many photos and graphics are found in the Kindle ebook version of this book. However, you won't be missing the story! Get both together!
