    Movie Info -- Up Pops the Devil is a 1931 American pre-Code comedy drama film directed by A. Edward Sutherland. The screenplay concerns an advertising man (Norman Foster) who quits his job to become a novelist, upsetting his wife (Carole Lombard) and straining their marriage. The film was released by Paramount Pictures. The screenplay is based on a 3-act play of the same name written by Albert Hackett and Frances Goodrich; the play ran on Broadway for 148 performances from September 1930 to January 1931 at the Theatre Masque.

    The Outsider was a 1931 British drama film directed by Harry Lachman and starring Joan Barry, Harold Huth and Norman McKinnel. The screenplay concerns an unorthodox osteopath who cures one of his patients, the daughter of a fellow Doctor. It was made at Elstree Studios and based on the 1923 play of the same title by Dorothy Brandon, previously made into an American silent film in 1926. The film's sets were designed by Wilfred Arnold.

    Film actor Harold Huth's performance was voted the best in a British film in 1931. The film was remade in 1939 as The Outsider with George Sanders and Mary Maguire in the leading roles.

It had been a long time since they’d had any real trouble and Matt Dillon, United States Marshall liked it peaceful for a change and hoped it would stay that way. But of course it doesn’t. The stage that was due in was carrying fifty thousand dollars in gold when it was held up and Mr. Carter’s fiancé was kidnapped. However the stage rider said it didn’t much look like she was kidnapped, more like she went along willingly.

    Brummel discusses the events of the previous evening with his manservant. He is reminded that a note has been received from a certain party that the £3000 which he lost three nights ago is due to be paid that very day. A marriage to a rich lady of some standing would seem to be the answer.

    A Star is Born -- The Hollywood classic about the star on her way to fame, passing her husband on the way down. Sid Grauman, founder of Grauman's Chinese Theatre, tells anecdotes about the stars. The story was produced on The Lux Radio Theatre again on December 28, 1942 (see cat. #30814). + Judy Garland plays the part of a small town girl who rises to big screen fame. The story begins in the bedroom of a small farm and a young girl is lying on the bed sobbing, The door opens and the girl's grandmother comes into the room and she gives her some money and tells her to go to Hollywood and follow her dream.

    Note: A planned interview with Amelia Earhart was postponed to the next week due to a delay in her soon-to-be doomed attempt of an around-the-world flight.

    The well-known comedy about the newspaper game and the escaped killer hiding in the roll-top desk. Amelia Earhart's appearance is announced as being postponed. The final half minute has been deleted from the closing, the story is unaffected. The female lead was scheduled to be Joan Bennett, but she could not appear due to illness and Josephine Hutchinson was substituted. . + We take up the story in a newspaper office in the City of Chicago. Walter Burns the managing editor played by James Gleason, is shouting down the phone to one of his staff. He tells him to find Hilde Johnson his ace reporter and tell him that he has to cover the hanging of Earl Williams at Cook County Jail the following morning. But the guy on the other end keeps telling Burns that Johnson has gone on his honeymoon.
