GoTigers247's Tigers on Tap Ep 12: Temple Review/Houston Preview

  • Summary

  • Welcome to Tigers on Tap Episode 12. In this episode, Trey and TJ review the Tigers' gritty 24-3 win over Temple in Week 5 and preview the upcoming matchup against pre-season AAC favorite, Houston Cougars. Houston was ranked in the Top 25 coming into the year, but comes into the game against the Tigers with a 2-3 record. The Tigers are favored to win the game on Friday night at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. In the first segment, TJ and Trey review the Temple game. For the second straight game, the Tigers' offense struggled to maintain any sustained momentum. For the first time in a long time, the Tigers went into halftime with zero points on the board. The Tigers' defense played inspired and kept Temple out of the endzone the entire game. They also forced three more turnovers continuing the trend of forcing opponents' turnovers and protecting the ball themselves. The Tigers are second in the nation in turnover margin at +9 on the season. TJ and Trey talk about the issues the offense is having. What are the trends they see that concern them? How can the Tigers fix the offensive woes? In the second segment, TJ and Trey preview the upcoming Week 6 game against the Houston Cougars. Houston and Memphis have faced off numerous times in the AAC, and all that will come to an end this year as Houston exits the AAC and moves to the Big 12. The Tigers come into this game on a four game winning streak, but the next three games will be the toughest stretch during their 2022 season. Houston has underwhelmed this year so far after being picked to win the AAC conference this year. They come in at 2-3 on the year, 0-1 in the AAC. TJ and Trey discuss the matchups they are most interested in seeing during this game. Houston lost their most talented defensive lineman at the beginning of the year, but still boast a fast and aggressive defensive front seven. The Tigers have struggled on the offensive line to protect Seth Henigan and open up holes for the run game. Trey and TJ discuss the Tigers' evolving offensive strategy and what types of wide receiver routes would be effective to stifle the Houston defense. Trey and TJ are both concerned with how the Tigers' secondary will be able to stop Nathaniel "Tank" Dell Jr, the prolific Houston wide receiver. Clayton Tune, the starting quarterback for Houston, has also proven himself to be a capable runner this year, and TJ and Trey discuss how the Tigers' defense needs to shore up their strategy against a quarterback who can be a dual threat. TJ predicts the Tigers will win 27-24 in a close, tough game against a talented, but fractured, Houston team. Trey predicts that the Tigers will win 30-28.
