For me, a hidden gem

Recently, I heard Phil speaking with Dana Gould on Dana's podcast. Dana gave him such a glowing revue, that I just had to check him out. Apparently, he has been doing his radio program for decades, I'm from MA, sadly, never heard of him or his show before. I don't know how to describe this show, it's Phil, and a huge cast of others that actually are also Phil. Since discovering his website, and his archives, I've signed on, and am working my way through some of the 65,000 hours of the shows I have missed since around 2000 or so. The characters and situations are pants-pissingly funny, surreal, and as I listen to these every night to get to sleep with my headphones on, my wife hears me laughing like a maniac often. A favorite character, R C Collins is a 16-year-old kid who attends school at a military academy. In one show, he's advocating young kids having sex, due to the prssures of being a kid, and why should it only be afforded to the grownups? Paraphrasing, R C says something about "tooling a possum and having to prepare for a biology test the next day..." R C reminds me of the character Porgy in the Firesign Theatre's Porgy and Mudhead bits. Phil has videos of his performances, but, I prefer the audio, feed into the illusion of these characters, I don't want to see the sausage being made, and I get exhausted just watching him work.
Since discovering this show, all my audiobooks are collecting dust. It's been about a month since I suscribed to the site, and I soldier on, looking through the synopsis of the shows as I make my way forward through the archives looking for my favorite characters and most outlandish situations. I regret not being aware of this man and these radio shows and podcasts since they began.

As great as ever.

I have listened to Phil since accidentally hearing a show in 1998 or so. That night, Bobbie Dooley was complaining that her new neighbors played "ethnic music" at their housewarming and Miles Davis and Carlos Santana just weren't a good fit for Western Estates. Hilarity ensued. Now that the show is a podcast I was worried that without callers, Phil would be at a loss...I needn't have. All the regular crew are still around, and funny as ever.

You get it or not

Hendrie is an acquired taste. His lampoon of talk radio is: deserving or inviting derision or mockery; absurd. Bawdy. Irreverent.
My favorite character is a squirrel called "the traveler"
He is trying to survive in what is now the wasteland of broadcast radio.
