We have him on the show to talk about what he's been up to in the world of ultrarunning and what his future plans are. We go over race results from Pinhoti 100 which we somehow missed talking about on the last episode. Then we discuss the incredible thing that happened at Tunnel Hill this year, Courtney Olsen set a women's 50 mile world record!!! We go over the results from the Puerto Vallarta by UTMB 100 mile and 100K, U.S. runners did pretty well there! We cover Fuzzy Fandango 50K which has turned into a fall classic of sorts at the Mohican State Forest, the gem of Ohio trail running. A new self supported and overall FKT was set on the AZ Trail. Some sort of record was set by two Americans who did a sub 24 hour 100 miler in Antarctica. We end the show talking about Aravaipa taking over the Endurance Race Series in Colorado and all the great things that Jamil and the crew have done for ultrarunning in the U.S.

  • Episode 044: Belgium Backyard Champs, Javelina Jundred, No Business, and an FKT Cutter
    Oct 31 2024

Tune in to hear about the conclusion of the Backyard World Championships! We also discuss the big party...errr...race at Javelina Jundred where David Roche put on a clinic. We dive into results from No Business 100, Tussey Mountainback 50, Truth or Consequences 50K, and Weekend at Burney 24 and 12 hour race. We let everyone know they can nominate people for the FKT of the year (link below). An ultrarunner thought he set the FKT on the Grand Teton route and it was his life goal for the last 4 years but there is a huge issue with his attempt. We pay homage to Julia "Hurricane" Hawkins who passed away recently at the age of 108, she took up running as a sprinter at the age of 100 and was pretty fast! Finally we talk about a new and impressive record that was set over the weekend.

Then we deep dive into the Bigs Backyard Ultra World Championships which is up to over 60 countries now! Belgium is in currently in first overall and the only country with runners still going and three of them tied the record of 108 yards (set last year by Harvey Lewis) as we are recording. As I am typing these show notes the three runners decided to all call it quits after 110 yards, that’s almost 460 miles!! We go over race results from the California Fall Classic 100K and 55K, Mines of Spain 100 and 100K, Grand Trail des Templiers 100K, Diagonale des Fous 100, Stone Steps 50K, Laurel Highlands 50K, Pony Express 100, Bimblers Bluff 50K, Uwharrie 100, and Delirium Ultra 24 hour. • Episode 042: Canal Corridor, Indiana Trail, Oil Creek, and Nedd Finishes 1000!
    Oct 17 2024

Tonight we kick it off by talking about Canal Corridor 100 and our friend Stephanie Campbell’s second place finish! Then we discuss the history of Indiana Trail 100 along with what a great community surrounds the race and go over the results from this year’s event. We also go over results from Oil Creek 100, Kodiak 100, and the Heartland 100. Then we talk about Bryon Powell from iRunFar who just competed in and won the Ultra Trail Gobi 400K stage race in western China. In addition we discuss race results from Cape Fear 24 hour race where costume chic was out there representing. We dive into a new 50K in Cascade Locks, Oregon called Angel’s Rest where they just had the inaugural running and now we both want to run it. Also, Free State Trail Run 40 miler was over the weekend and they had one finisher, spoiler alert she took first place overall. Nedd Brockman finished his 1,000 mile run in 12 and a half days. He didn’t break the world record but he did raise at least 2.6 million dollars for homelessness in Australia. Pretty impressive accomplishment all around. There is a fundraiser being done in western NC at the Old Fort Strong Endurance Festival December 7th and as we talk about some of our favorite ultrarunners will be out there. Proceeds will go to residents and businesses whose homes were damaged or lost due to hurricane Helene. We end with a guy that did a run during hurricane Milton, basically running through the storm, there is always one!

  • Episode 041: Courtney Does it Again, Nedd for 1,000, and a Taco Bell Ultra
    Oct 10 2024

This week we start off by giving everyone in Florida our well wishes during this tough time with Hurricane Milton moving through. Then we discuss Courtney Dauwalter continuing her dynasty of high profile race victories by winning Nice Cote d’ Azur (UTMB) 100 mile and she was not far off from first place overall. Then we go over the Saddles 100 and 50 mile races in Prescott, AZ where two of our friends and favorite Ohio trail runners Chad Trumbo and Jay Smithberger competed in those races and did very well. We also discuss race resultrs from Cuyamaca 100K, Spooner’s Cove 50K, DC Peaks 50, Hennepin 100, Shawnee 50/50, Arkansas Traveller 100, and Yankee Springs Fall 50K. There is a new self-supported FKT on the 1,444 mile Buckeye trail. We take a look at Nedd Brockman from Australia who is trying to break Yiannis Kouros’s long standing 1,000 mile record of 10 days 10 hours 30 minutes and 36 seconds. Nedd is 6 days in and 900K deep so he has some ground to make up in the next 4 days. We end the show talking about the Taco Bell 50K race in Denver that Sage Canaday participated in recently. Sounds like you need an iron stomach to get that done. Johnny revisits a 50K that he did with some friends in Columbus where they stopped at multiple breweries throughout the run.

  • Episode 040: Mike Wardian AT, Hurricane Helene, Spartathlon, and The Bear
    Oct 4 2024

Late release this week but better late then never! We start off talking about Mike Wardian completing his Appalachian Trail through run in 60 days. He had to battle the aftermath of hurricane Helene in order to get it done. We discuss the devastation of the hurricane and also the Yeti folks who pitched in and helped the people of Damascus after the Yeti 100 was cancelled. Then we look into the 153 mile Spartathlon road race in Greece. Camille Herron was back to defend her course record from last year but she had a lot going on with the wiki controversy. She DNF'd and we haven't heard much about why but I can imagine she was mentally distracted. We go over race results from The Bear 100, Dick Collins Firetrails, Flagstaff Sky Peaks, Mt. Taylor 50K, West Line Winder 50K, and Heritage 50K. Meredith Hughes set a new women's self-supported FKT on the Colorado trail west to east collegiate west. Courtney Dauwalter is racing in France this weekend and will be going for the outright win at Nice Cote d'Azure 115K which is no longer a Western States golden ticket race.
