  • Creature Feature 84- Washed Up on Shore
    Nov 23 2024

Welcome to What The Heck's Creature Feature! These episodes release on Saturdays and look at folklore and cryptids from around the world! The same academic style is applied to these episodes, but they look at history and eyewitness reports before describing the creature of the week! A lot of the time, theories are a bit more scarce than the main episodes, but the content is still just as interesting.

This week we're looking at the Montauk Monster. This monster was never seen alive, being discovered as a carcass in 2008. Within 2 weeks, the news became a media sensation, but the women who discovered it and the carcass both mysteriously disappeared. Cryptozoologists were divided, but one began to investigate. Where was the Montauk Monster found? Where did it go? What does an animal research facility have to do with it? Listen in to find out!

  • Episode 137- No, it's Mine!
    Nov 20 2024

Welcome to What The Heck season 4! This podcast explores unexplained phenomena using stories gathered from various sources, then applies an academic research method to find theories and solutions for each one. So far, we've been unsuccessful in finding any concrete answers, but a few of the stories we've covered have been solved. Today, we're looking at some history to discover the location of the Lost Mines of Ophir. In the Bible, mentions are made of a mine filled with gold. There is even evidence that proves that this was a real place. We just don't know the location. Who used the mine? What else was exported from Ophir? Where is it? Listen in to hear all the theories!

This week we're looking at Baba Yaga. Existing solely in folklore, she is said to be the purest form of evil. Her appearance in fairy tales from Slavic countries and Russia show her to be more aligned with the Trickster archetype though. She has a taste for eating children, but often lets them get away. What is Baba Yaga? How does she get around? Where did she come from? Listen in to find out!
