"The Just So Stories" are a collection written by the world famous British author Rudyard Kipling, published in 1902. Highly fantasized origin stories, especially for differences among animals, they are among Kipling's best known works. "The Just So Stories" began as bedtime stories told to 'Effie' [Josephine, Kipling's child]; when the first three were published in a children's magazine, a year before her death, Kipling explained:... in the evening there were stories meant to put Effie to sleep.

Set in the days of the British Raj, Kipling's finest novel is the exciting and touching tale of an Irish orphan-boy who has lived free in the streets of Lahore before setting out, with a Tibetan Lama, on a double quest. "The Three Musketeers" is a short story by Rudyard Kipling which introduces three fictional British soldiers serving in India in the later nineteenth century: the privates Learoyd, Mulvaney and Ortheris. These characters appear in many early Kipling stories. "The Three Musketeers" was first published in the Civil and Military Gazette on 11 March 1887. It appeared in book form in Plain Tales from the Hills (1888).
