Marshall Lewy Helps Audible Bring Bold, Genre-Defining Audio to Listeners

As Head of Audible Content, North America, Marshall Lewy is helping bring more premium audio storytelling to more listeners. Since joining us in 2025, he has helped expand access to Audible’s exclusive podcast catalog, much of which is now available through Apple Podcasts, while building on Audible’s unmatched slate of Originals across formats.
Before joining us, Lewy oversaw the development and production of hundreds of shows as Wondery’s Chief Content Officer, from video podcasts like New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce to hit series like Dr. Death. Nearly 200 of those narrative podcasts are now part of the Audible Originals catalog and span history, fiction, and investigative series from some of the most respected names in audio, like journalists Ronan Farrow, Jon Ronson, Laura Beil, Leon Neyfakh, and detective Paul Holes.
Lewy’s path to audio spans film, television, and streaming, including serving as an executive producer on Emmy-nominated series for HBO and FX, and working as an independent screenwriter and director. His feature films have premiered at the Sundance and Tribeca Film Festivals. Today, he and his team develop Audible Originals and exclusives, produce plays and live productions at Audible’s Minetta Lane Theatre, and help bring our content to life in television and film.
“Our goal is to create brand-defining content for Audible that gets people talking and saying, ‘You have to listen to this,’” he says. Read on to learn more about what inspires Lewy as he champions bold, innovative storytelling.
Where do you draw inspiration from, as a leader?
I love to read books and listen to interviews with leaders who built amazing businesses with excellent content as the cornerstone of what they do: Pixar, HBO, Netflix, A24, Apple. These companies created generations of fans and acolytes by making films, TV series, and products beloved by audiences and customers. They care about creative excellence and reaching large audiences, and they do this by building strong businesses that were inextricably linked to a culture of creativity and boundary-pushing.
What’s exciting about leading at Audible right now?
I feel fortunate we are able to take calculated risks, and this is a moment we are able to move faster and try things quickly. It’s a balancing act to use AI in creative endeavors. It’s important we keep the human heart at the core of the content we produce. But what's incredible to me about AI, and makes it exciting to lead today at a place like Audible, is how AI is creating the ability to make something in just a few hours or days that, in the past, would have been too complicated and wouldn’t have made it into any team’s priorities. I’m seeing a lot of cross-team collaboration because new challenges are invariably bringing together people across content, marketing, product and tech to think differently about how we’re approaching new challenges.
What is something you believe is essential to succeeding as a leader?
One thing that comes to mind: it’s important sometimes to be the voice that helps teams and colleagues see the 50,000-foot view of what we’re all working towards. It can be easy to get siloed, or get lost in the details of our own goals to the point where we’re pulling in different directions. I believe it’s essential, as a leader, to be able to step back, see the big picture, and check in with colleagues to make sure we remember what we were trying to accomplish in the first place.
What do you like best about your work?
I love how varied my days are: I can be with a creator in one meeting, talk strategy in the next, and then have a team leadership meeting or creative seminar. But the most fun part of any day for me is getting back to what I love the most, which is trying to bring out the best in our creative projects: brainstorming a project or story ideas, reading a new script, listening to an early mix and giving feedback, or coming up with ways to make a story more powerful.
If you could travel back in time, where would you land?
Tough call, but I think New York City in the “Roaring Twenties” is close to the top of my list, especially if I could then go check out Paris in the 1920s too.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Teleportation, so I could get anywhere in the world with the snap of my fingers.
