About this listen

One woman's grit and determination to keep her family together at all costs as the trials and tribulations they face seem ever mounting and perilous.

A tale that spans the generations...

Wakeford 1877

The rabble rouser, otherwise known as Tobias Beckett has left Wakeford for America. Meanwhile, Cassandra is taking care of his mother, Cynthia, who is in poor health and she fears that something serious might happen to the woman while her son is so far away. It had been a year since Tobias Beckett left Wakeford and there are some that miss him and some that most definitely, do not. Rose has since given birth to a baby girl called, Sophia, so Tobias's return could spell disaster for her and Clyde if he were ever to return and claim his child. There's someone in Wakeford who has it in for Cassandra and plans on making her life a living hell. Can she cope with being the subject of gossip once again?

Wakeford 1914

There have been rumours in Wakeford since the previous Christmas time that Britain is heading towards a war with Germany, but following the assassination of Franz Ferdinand of Austria at the end of June, things begin to surge forward at an alarming pace as the war progresses and folk in the village begin to fret about it. The women in the area in particular worry, realising that soon they might lose their sons, fathers, brothers and husbands to some senseless war that will be fought in a distant land far from home. Cassandra's twin sons, Gilbert and Ernest, sign up to fight for their King and country and she's immensely proud of her granddaughter, Alice, who becomes a nurse. It's an uncertain future ahead for all in the village of Wakeford.

With the spoils of war comes remembrance....
