Poor Christa! Not only does her buxom, well endowed friend, Maisie, get all the attention from boys, now Christa discovers that her horse, Sherman, needs four new shoes or he will go lame.

What a dilemma for Christa. She has no money and no way of getting any so she goes to the blacksmith, the aptly named Jake Brutus to see if she can help in the smithy as a way of paying for the shoes. But the kind of recompense Jake has in mind does not involve working the bellows.
