Publisher's summary
Being dumped by her fiancé weeks before the wedding left Ashanti feeling unattractive and insecure. She was at the bottom of a low when her girlfriends convinced her a night out of partying and dancing would help to lift her spirits.
Little did she know she would meet the man of her dreams.
Not only was Hawk Malone a Marine, he was drop-dead gorgeous and, best of all, he wanted her! It was like a perfect fantasy come true...almost too perfect, in fact. But Ashanti was too far gone to worry about the clear warning signs. For the first time in a long time, she felt truly desirable and there was no telling what the resultant euphoria would make her do....
Warning: This 22,700-word story contains a steamy romance between a young black woman and a gorgeous Marine and explicit scenes too passionate for some listeners to handle!

Ryder, Garrett, Kenzo, and Diesel - The Vipers. Their deals are as sordid as their business, and their reputation is enough to bring a grown man to his knees, forcing him to beg for mercy. They are not people you mess with, yet my dad did. The old man ran up a debt with them and then sold me to cover his losses. Yes, sold me. They own me now. I’m theirs in every sense of the word. But I’ve never been meek and compliant.

Story
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Story
Hockey coach Ashley Jaswal doesn't take nonsense from anyone … except her overbearing and superstitious family. They believe she's a good luck charm for her brother Jas, the newest Vancouver Canucks draft pick, forcing Ash to attend all his games as he rises up the NHL ranks, sacrificing her personal life (not that she has one—who decided hockey season needed to be 10 months long anyway?). Ash also clashes with Jas’s teammate, Canucks captain Devin Snyder.

Story
After watching my mother succumb to a mysterious illness, I promised myself two things. I'd find the cure for what ravaged her and leave the godforsaken city where she abandoned me. Four years later, I received an acceptance letter from Dracadia University, one of the oldest most prestigious schools in the country. Nestled on a secluded island off the coast of Maine, it's rumored to be haunted by the souls of the mental patients exiled there centuries before, those whose bones are said to make up the island's white sandy shores. And restless ghosts aren't even its most daunting peculiarity.

One pet peeve
I liked this story and I like this writer. The story was quick, sexy and cute. Both characters were really strong and written well. My only pet peeve is that the author should complete a little research. Marines are not Soldiers. Soldiers are not Marines. Both would be offended to be called either. I would definitely listen to more by Dez Burke.

Great
this was a great audible book and I would enjoy reading more from this author. I do wish however that it was a little longer.

Finally the light bulb went on!
I felt this was a good storyline and the characters believable. I was glad that Hawk finally realized that he was in love with Ashanti.

Erotic and commanding
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
In traditional book format, not audible. I did not like the narration at all. There were moments when the pitch of the narrator, giving the protagonist a voice, would become shrill. Then the way she pronounced or enunciated certain words was irritating. Reading it would have probably been easier.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Actually, none. Hawk's constant use of the word babe was annoying and out of place. Ashanti is not a good name, but I do kind of like her. Bertha is not a good name as well for someone supposedly in her 20's or 30's.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
sound of voice, shrill sounding at times, the way she enunciated certain words was annoying. She stressed words that probably should have been stressed to make or emphasis a point, but she did the opposite. The voice of the characters were not good or convincing. I realize this is a very difficult job, rather than attempt and fail, it may just be better to give all of the characters the same voice. Maybe, this would be better.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No. I do like the erotic parts though. There was definitely chemistry between the protagonist and her love interest.
Any additional comments?
I wish there was some background build up of the characters and some depth to the book. But, it's a short story and this is what it was meant to do...entertain.

I am a loyal Dez Burke fan..bwwm stories
Short fast, wham bam thank you mame.. BUT the story is worth the small price. Dez fan here. I find it hard to find stories with diverse people with various skin/ ethnic types. Dez Burke INCLUDES different types of people in her books via co workers, friends & families. Different skin colors socialized like in life and she puts it in her stories. I do wish the stories would be longer.. But for 2 hours of entertainment. It is worth the price.. DEZ BURKE rocks!!!

This is one of the hottest, sexiest books ever!
This book is so hot I almost cinged my fingers on my kindle while reading it! Hawk and Ashanti are hotter than hot! Love the story! The sexy Marine and the beautiful, recently dumped business owner have a one-night stand that turns both their lives upside down! The story was cool and fun, the writing is well-paced, and the sex scenes are explosively hot! Loved it! Dez has a fan for life in this reader. Pepper L. does an amazing job reading this!

Boringggg
The storyline could've been so much more elaborate it just completely fell short and the person narrating the story especially doing these voices just made the book unbearable to listen to glad they provided her name I'm making sure not to buy any books where she is narrating.
