About this listen

'Your former life is over. Your apartment will be emptied, your car disposed of, your life erased. You are now our property, to be used and enjoyed as we see fit. Your life is quite literally in our hands.'

Mara Stevens jumps at the chance for a job at a new premier resort on the North Carolina coast. All she has to do is fly out to the private island and get through one more interview. Unfortunately, what should be a shiny new career opportunity turns into a living nightmare.

Upon landing, she learns the horrifying truth. She's been taken against her will to serve as a sex slave to the owners and their chosen guests - high-powered, dangerous men who see her as nothing more than their sexual toy, to use and abuse at their whim. With no escape possible, Mara is forced to submit to the training and discipline of a sadistic taskmaster - or suffer the consequences.

Good girls are rewarded; bad girls are punished - severely. Deep into her harrowing journey of forced sexual servitude and submission, Mara becomes prey for The Hunt. Scared and alone in the woods, Mara must summon all her courage and cunning to outwit the men who have paid handsomely for the privilege of hunting naked young women - and doing whatever their depraved minds wish to their helpless, captured prize.

Warning: Hunted is a dark, erotic romance novel that explores the psychology of power when it's taken and abused, and, as such, contains scenes some listeners may find disturbing.

Terrifying to listen to...

Dark, Dark, Dark! Trigger warnings are not overstated, nor exaggerated. Take heed. Certainly a very intense listening experience.

Narration Brings Down Another Book

The story was good but the narrator was annoying. He was haughty and had this affect that reminded me of Mr. Howell on Gilligan's Island. It didn't fit the characters at all. It was only when he voiced Gordy that he sounded like a normal person. It distracted from the story. A good narrator enhances a book and he did not. It's impossible to tell from the small snippet if the narrator is going to make you want to rip your ears inside out.

This book... is not for the faint of heart.

I assumed that this would be another captive rehavilitating a man on the precarious fence between good and evil as many of these books are, this was NOT that. If you're looking for a hatred turned love romance, this is not it. This isn't even really a romance when you get down to it. At it's core, I'd say it was more of a thriller if I had to classify it, only because there was little mystery to it but the fear was always there for Mara. Always.
I've listened to more audiobooks than I can count. I think I went past the highest badge for number of hours listened months ago. And even with all those captives and dark romances, this book stood apart. This was one of the most realistic ones I've ever heard. Love was not the goal of this book, it was a little bit of a fantastical setting and storyline at some points, but still realistic in the most fundamental way by showing a peek at what it's like for women that become slaves. It hurt me to listen at so many points, hurt me to hear how these girls had been beaten down physically as well as emotionally; but I loved that Mara was so strong despite going through so much. At some parts, I'm sure you'd think that she wasn't strong, but I'm sure many people would break going through what these women went through. It was a stark and somewhat fictionalized view of something real and horribly sad. But have no fear, the ending makes the sadness worth it. If you can make it through Mara's sad story, you will see the light at the end of the tunnel. But be warned that this isn't just some BDSM with dubious consent, this involves zero consent, zero lust on Mara's end (except when manipulated physically but the emotional aspect does not follow as it does in the many books where captives fall in love with their captor). Mara never loves Alex, and I found some solace in that because that man was a manipulative piece of shit and I knew from the very first time he punished her that I wouldn't forgive his sins even if he did some how become a better man throughout.
Overall, good narration (a tad stiff in parts but still very good overall), very good writing, and a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, cheering for Mara until the very end.

Not To Bad

This book wasn’t to bad. I wasn’t offended by the context or the storyline. I actually felt the storyline was unique. You can definitely feel a difference when your reading an erotic book based on love and a book like this where love was not part of the equation.

I prefer the love aspect or even respect aspect of a book. Theirs just a connection you feel.

I did like the ending and how everything came to a close.

One of the better plots

I enjoyed the book from beginning to end. It was somewhat similiar to many other plots, but enjoyable just the same.

Not as good as it could have been

This is the second book by Claire Thompson that I have read and to be honest, a great deal of the more explicit content is nearly identical. Sure there are some new things, but the commonly used terminology to describe these events is off putting. Then there is the story. It is just not developed well enough and it leaves me feeling like I had a snack when I wanted a meal.
