About this listen
An erotic retelling of a timeless literary classic.
Jane Eyre has lived a sheltered, callous life. Orphaned at a young age and despised by her remaining family, she is shipped off to Lowood School and can only dream of tenderness and affection. Upon accepting a governess position at Thornfield Hall, a world of passion, desire, and sex explodes before her naive eyes in the form of the brooding, dashing master of the house: Mr. Rochester. Jane finds herself succumbing to his savage, brutal lust and losing herself in the intense heat of her yearning. Jane believes that beneath Mr. Rochester's dark, handsome, and sometimes brutal exterior there must be a heart, and she is desperate to find love in his hungry caresses. But then, she discovers something in the attic...and her world is turned upside down forever.
In this cleverly retold classic, sex collides with corsets in a burst of erotic, mash-up fiction, bringing the searing heat of Fifty Shades of Grey to the dark secrets of one of literature's finest novels, Jane Eyre.

The sexual charge many read between the lines in Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre is has been made much more intimate, electrifying, satisfying, and oh, so, quite un-Victorian. There is more to the tale and couplings than the will-they-or-won’t-they (they will!) of Jane and Mr. Rochester. Heather Wilds, veteran of the London stage, as well as television and film, ranges from innocence to cruelty from yearning to culmination as she performs this erotic mashup of a literary classic many have read and the story of sexual appetites fulfilled most of them imagined.

What disappointed you about Jane Eyrotica?
The "revision" is very "coy" unable to decide what it wants to be. Was it going to be full-fledged erotica or was it going to be true to the original novel? My thinking is if you are going to bring the erotic to this story, you might as well go all out: you are already tampering with the novel might as well just delight in making it raunchy. But this is a book that giggles at its own "naughtiness" and is really just one big yawn. What was most disappointing about Charlotte Bronte and Karena Rose ’s story?
see aboveWhat about Heather Wilds’s performance did you like?
Heather Wild gives a noble performance and I suspect that it is her reading that inspired me to finish the book. She has a good voice, and does a good job performing the northern English accent. If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Jane Eyrotica?
I don't know if I would cut, but I would certainly advise differently. Lovers of "Jane Eyre" already have the book memorized so staying loyal to the original with naked-bits thrown in wouldn't appeal to that audience. Those who read erotica would expect this version of Jane Eyre to be much more. . . well. . . erotic--not the occasional bodice ripping in a ditch when it seems to "fit nicely" into the original narrative. I would have encouraged this writer to make the novel more her own--add scenes, give behind the scenes (perhaps more Rochester sneaking into Jane's room), have Jane walk in on St. John and Rosamond doing the nasty in the school room. When I think of this book, I just think it is a bit like a turkey dinner (something we all love and is a traditional meal we indulge in) with hamburger chunks taped on the outside. It just doesn't work and it isn't very edible.Any additional comments?
It was fun, but I wouldn't recommend it. The reader was great--will look for her other worksJust bad trash (and not in a good way)

What I got was a seriously abridged version of the classic with seven or eight sex scenes added in. That's less than one sex scene per hour. You cannot call that erotica. And the sex is so...bland. It's all male/female, for starters. And no threesomes, groups, etc. No voyeurism. No kink. Sure, a riding crop makes a token appearance (it doesn't really get used), and at once point Jane's hands are bound above her head with a bed curtain tie. Yawn.
On the plus side, the reader was very good. She might be the only reason I finished the book.

That said, this book just doesn't work. This just isn't the right book to try to make into erotica. I don't think the problem is the time period the story took place in, but the fact that the original novel was almost overwrought with religious allegory. Additionally, love between Jane and Mr. Rochester seems to come out of nowhere. Writers of love stories do this often...trying to get the reader to confuse sex with love. But it is somehow more obvious in this adaptation.
As far as the erotica, I don't think there's any way Rose could have made sex jump off of every page. Some of Eyre's initial sexual interactions are in-depth, but actually quite repulsive. Then again, maybe that's the point. The sex scenes with Mr. Rochester are appealing and well-written, but again they really don't seem to work for this story.
All in all, I would say there's nothing wrong with making this purchase. But I would definitely wait until it goes on sale. It wasn't worth a whole credit.
