About this listen
Get in. Get the job done. Get out. Get paid.
It's a simple motto that I've lived by for the last five years. It's kept me alive and made me rich.
There's no love lost between me and the supernatural beings who walk the world beside us. But when it comes to being able to retrieve valuable information from the dead, Necromancer Riley Stone is the only game in town. They know it. I know it too, and that's why my services aren't cheap.
The archangel Benjamin hired me to find out why he has a new demon problem. Three demon interrogations in, and the only thing I know is that the demons are in hot pursuit of a nameless young woman. She's here on Calamata Island, and the demon officials are willing to risk Benjamin's wrath to grab her.
But I found her first, and she's nothing like what I expected. In my line of work, you can't afford to let anyone get too close. But there's something about Paige Matthews that I can't shake, and she needs my help. I won't turn her over to Benjamin until I help her find out why the demons are after her.
So now I've got a demon problem, and I'm in way over my head.
This paranormal romance suspense story unfolds over multiple volumes. Due to strong language, this story might not be suitable for younger listeners.

And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

I don't want to wait for part 2 to come out!
This story is not bad, but as I said in my headline I don't want to wait for part two to come out. I was really getting into this story when it ended right in the middle of the coffee shop, literally.
This is what I would call a paranormal thriller. Our hero, Riley Stone, is a necromancer. That means he can conjure demons and dead people. Where the demons are concerned he can hurt them real bad, even kill them, but they can't touch him in a non-corporeal form. They first have to take the body of a living being before becoming dangerous to Riley.
For some reason demons are running rampant on this island that they are forbidden to trespass on, and Riley wants to know why, and he wants to know yesterday. He comes upon a girl who calls herself Paige who is being attacked by a demon who is trying to capture her. Riley kills the demon and helps heal the wound in shoulder left by the beast. It is then he finds out that "Paige" actually has no idea who she is, where she's from or anything else about her life prior to the last three years. She was found floating in the ocean near the island and when she finally came to in the hospital found that she suffered from complete amnesia.
Just Riley's luck. Now he has to figure out she really is and why the demons are after her since the demons rarely attack a human without a reason. Thus begins the adventure and the relationship between Riley and Page. What happens next? Well you're going to have to listen to find out, but be prepared to buy Part 2 of our story whenever it comes out. Part 1 ends on a major cliff hanger.
The story is well written so far. Our narrators Angel Clark and Robert Neil DeVoe do an adequate job of bringing their characters to life, although I have to say that between the two of them Angel is my favorite. Just saying!
My advice would be that unless you just like major cliff hangers and waiting around for the sequels to be published I would wait until Part 2 is released before buying Part 1. You never know how long it will be between audio books.

A terrific beginning to paranormal romance serial
Title: PROTECT HER: Part One
Author: Ivy Sinclair
Type of Book: Audiobook - Unabridged
Narrators: Angel Clark and Robert Neil DeVoe
Length: 2 hours and 21 minutes
Genre: Paranormal Fiction
Release Date: May 29, 2015
Publisher: Ivy Sinclair
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
~ I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
~ Due to strong language this audiobook is NOT suitable for listeners under the age of 18.
Riley Stone is a Necromancer. He has a fearsome reputation amongst the Demon population. Paige Matthews is a regular young woman who knows nothing about demons and who, like most of the population does not believe in the supernatural.
Calamata Island is a declared demon-free zone and is under the protection of the Archangel Benjamin. So, when Paige is attacked on Calamata Island by what she sees as a shadow with fiery eyes and is saved by Riley, she has no idea what is happening.
Riley is perplexed as well. Why would a Demon risk Benjamin's wrath just to attack a normal human?
This is the first audiobook in a series and ends with no resolution at all which I found frustrating. Of course, it ended with a cliffhanger which will make listeners want to purchase the next audiobook in the series to find out what happens next.
The cliffhanger ending is a terrific marketing strategy, but is frustrating for audiobook listeners. However, in author, Ivy Sinclair's defence, it is obvious that this book is only part of a series since the title is " PROTECT HER: Part One".
The characters of Riley Stone and Paige Matthews are only beginning to discover who they are in this book. I am sure that they will develop further over the course of the next ten episodes. One thing that comes across quite clearly is the fact that Riley Stone is gorgeous. I was reading the author's blog and came across a picture of Riley and WOW, he is definitely eye candy.
The best thing about this audiobook was the decision to use two different narrators. I really liked having a female (Angel Clark) performing the part of Paige and a male (Robert Neil DeVoe) performing the part of Riley. It made the changes in perspective much more effective.
Angel Clark has a terrific voice for audiobook narration. She speaks clearly and uses exactly the right inflection for her part.
Robert Neil DeVoe was an inspired choice for the part of Riley Stone. He makes the character come alive and uses the perfect mix of emotion and cynicism to portray the jaded character of Riley Stone. I do not think I would have rated this audiobook as highly as I did if it weren't for the amazing narration. The narrators both deserve a 5 star rating. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
PROTECT HER: Part One is only two hours and twenty-one minutes long which makes it an easy listening experience.
I enjoyed his audiobook and my only complaint is that it didn't contain more of the story. It would be nice to have a single audiobook containing all episodes of this story.
I rate this audiobook as 4 out of 5 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fresh and fun
This book feels so young and passionate. Listeners become dazed by Angel Clark's voice as they learn about the intense supernatural world that Riley lives in. The plot is rich with new and exciting information that makes listening feel like a treat!

Lacking something
I wanted to like this, just like I do any book I accept in exchange for an honest review. I just didn't like it. To me, the characters in this book spoke, and acted like people in the show 'Mad Men'. I'm used to strong female characters that don't take crap, kick ass, and and would scoff at a man who would call a woman a 'broad'.
The story itself might be good if there was enough of it to get into, but I couldn't be sure, this first volume is quite short. I also found much of the phrasing to be cliche, which often made me think Ms. Sinclair either wanted to write using canned phrases, or was too rushed to care. I'd like to think she would have been more creative with the telling of the story if she were able to.
The narration is okay at best. Both Angel Clark and Robert Neil DeVoe sound unsure of themselves, and give the feeling that they are uncomfortable reading aloud. I will admit that Angel seems to feel more comfortable at times, but overall I was not impressed.
It's not long, so it can't hurt to give it a read/listen. Or, you could wait for the next installment, and get a better feel for the story in a way that I was not able to.
