About this listen

They say blood makes you related but loyalty makes you a family…
Sounds like a tacky wall-art quote to me. But what do I know? I don’t have a family. Not anymore. And I definitely don’t know loyalty. Not since my brothers collectively decided to shut me out of their lives... Not since my mother lied to me and kept a devastating secret... Not since my father sold our company out from under me to a smug jerk with a chip on his shoulder.

Gideon Masters… he’s my new boss, and I hate him for everything that’s happened to me. For everything that’s been taken away. Even though I know, deep down, that being an angry bastard all my life hasn’t done me any favors, and that my hatred must have consequences. So maybe Gideon is my rightful punishment. Maybe I deserve his retribution for my sins. But the way he taunts me and torments me, the way he commands me, it all feels too good to be wrong. Maybe I don’t want him to stop. Maybe my punishment could also be my savior.

This story contains intense themes of depression and homophobia, as well as other potential triggers. Please see the full list of trigger warnings at the beginning of the book.

Loved this like the rest of the series.

I wasn’t sure how Mitch was going to redeem himself, but this was done well. So nice to hear from everyone again, especially Emory and Max 💕 as usual. The narrator did an amazing job.

Better than I could have ever imagined!!!

This was my favorite book in the series. I cried my eyes out during the heartbreaking beginning which made it all the more wonderful to reach the HEA. Magnus finally has all his brothers back :’) and when I realized who Mitch’s dad was I was so happy! Super lovely to have so many characters from the author’s other books show up in the story!

Oh Mitch! And my poor heart!

Actual image of my face while reading this: 🥹🥺
My heart was broken and pieced back together. Took me so long to figure the connections between some of the characters at the end but definitely happy to see them. This was a great end to the series. I wished it was longer!

Best redemption story ever

I have loved this series but this one was my favorite. I had no clue how Mitch would be redeemed but Cora made it happen and I was pulling for him from almost the beginning. It was nice seeing all the side characters again too! I cried and giggled and my heart just loves this book.

Mitch Forever!

I loved this story when I read it with my eyes, and this audio is the cherry on top. Mitch is so precious and angry and the way Gideon (reluctantly) shows up for him is so swoony!

The audio is fire, with Zaba completely committed to the performance and his range on show with the detail he brings to each part. There are some excellent cameos from old friends, all of whom are voiced to perfection. Love this!

Love the broken villain

Who doesn’t love a good boss x employee workplace romance?

This is book 3 in Cora’s Our Exception series. At the end of the previous book I was left really disliking Mitch, but he definitely redeems himself in this one!

This is Mitch and Gideon’s story and I absolutely loved these two! I had so much fun reading their push and pull dynamic and I am so glad Gideon came into Mitch’s life and helped turn things around for him.

The audiobook performance was ELITE. Zachary Zaba is definitely a favorite narrator of mine, so I pretty much knew going into this one that I’d love it.

best book by CR I've read and amazing performance by Zachary

when I saw CR was working on this series I honestly couldn't see how she'd make me care for these guys, Maggie endured so much that I couldn't imagine forgiving his brother but book 1 proved it was possible and I loved the way it was approached, then book 2 was even more emotional while still having the sense of humor we expect, and now?

Mitch's book was so much more than what I was expecting
I read Maggie and Emery's books too and the stories of the other guys that make an appearance too so I have full context and am aware of the different levels of trauma and the characters' ways of coping, so seeing those characters next to Mitch and the way he was feeling-and-avoiding was contrasting and made me go through ALL the emotions

we still have fun and spicy scenes, very sweet moments, and the typical CR humor we crave, but also some moments were extremely real, very relatable, and raw

this is the first time I actually had to take breaks with a Cora Rose book to calm down because I felt it all. I don't want to give specifics because I don't want to spoil any part of Mitch's journey but if I wasn't already impressed by the way CR's brain works I'd totally be right now

the characters we have here, even little pantaloons, had a key part to play that made Mitch's redemption possible, believable, and incredibly emotional

and Zachary Zaba's performance was great as expected, even with so many characters he kept the voices consistent and matching their personalities

I had high expectations and they were more than met, I cried so many times, I really felt for Mitch and his brothers and this is an audiobook I'll keep coming back to

Perfect finish to this series!

Mitch's story is an emotional rollercoaster and I loved every minute of it. THIS is a redemption arc done right! Zachary Zaba has done an incredible job throughout this entire series, but this one in particular may be some of his best work I've heard. The emotion, the different character voices...a fantastic performance all around. This is the third book of a series that should be read in order, and I HIGHLY recommend all three!
