About this listen
Now, his daughter, Luna, and her husband, Carlo, find themselves searching for clues to discover what is hidden in her family house and who her father had upset in the process. However, there is another person seeking out these answers and their black gloved hands are too anxious to resort to violence and murder.
This love-letter to 1970s Italian Giallo films and literature is for mature readers as it contains gore, violence, sensual elements and language.

Too short to be impactful but definitely "giallo"
I hate to be the outlier here (this story has only 5-star ratings on Gooreads), but I always have to be honest in my reviews. Stranger in the Shadows has all of the components that make a giallo "giallo". You have a masked killer, brutal kill scenes, sex scenes, a whodunit, psychopaths, and enough visual details to evoke a modern gothic atmosphere.
The pitfalls of Stranger in the Shadows are the pitfalls of most giallo films, if I am being honest. One, you don't get to spend enough time with any characters to feel what is at stake- it is my same issue with many slashers. Two, the big reveal is often so abrupt that it is unsatisfying. There were not enough cookie crumbs being sprinkled throughout the story to make the big twist impactful.
This story would have been better if we just stayed with Luna and Carlo instead of devoting chapters to people who are just numbers. Nevertheless, I am giving this story 3 stars instead of 2 because it is an "on the nose" interpretation of a giallo, for better and worse.
