About this listen
NEW YORK TIMES and USA TODAY Bestselling Author.
All my life, I've been a man-magnet. Everywhere I go, guys drop at my feet. After all, I have a perfect body, insatiable sex drive, and a razor wit. I'm also modest (can't you tell?). Trouble is, I've never been lucky in love. I only attract guys who forget their wallets and show up to dates wearing #@%#-stained clothes. With my best friend's wedding around the corner, I finally decide enough is enough. I'm not only going to find the perfect date to her wedding, but I'm going to find Mr. Right: a gorgeous man with a great sense of humor, a chiseled bod, talent in bed, and a big...(ahem) wallet. Is that too much to ask? If all goes right, my quest will lead me into the arms of my perfect match...or will it?
Book 4 (The Cop): Just when Simone least expects it, she meets a handsome, virile cop who has eyes only for her. He's attentive, devoted, and always has his big gun cocked and ready. He rocks her world while making her his own...but does his obsession go too far?
SIMONE: ADVENTURES IN DATING (Book 4: The Cop) is a prequel to the hilarious bestselling series, CARPE DiEMILY. This installment series can be read separately from CARPE DiEMILY. 18+ for heat factor and mature situations.

Story
Two little girls stand with their heads bowed in my living room. I’m told they’re my granddaughters. Daisy is nine, and Alice seven. Daisy is the spitting image of her mother. This is the first time I’ve met them since my daughter and I fell out after she married that waste of space, Vince. They’ve come to live with me because their mother — my daughter — was murdered. In her own home while they slept close by. I think Vince killed her. But the police can’t prove it. I’ve always known he was no good. He treated my daughter like dirt. I said he’d cheat on her — but she wouldn’t listen.

Who is Audrey Hoedemaker? It's a question her sister Maureen has heard more times than she can count, and she doesn't know what the short answer would be. Little sister, troubled teen, backpacker, musical theatre coach, con artist, childcare worker. Murderer. A tragic, traumatic childhood casts a long shadow on the Hoedemaker sisters. Maureen has worked hard to move beyond the violence of the past and build a good, honest life for herself. Audrey, however, just can't seem to do the same, careening from one state of chaos to another.

Story
Lucas knows the perfect night entails just three things: video games, wine, and pad thai. Peanuts are a must! Other people? Not so much. Why complicate things when he’s happy alone? Then one day the apartment board, a vexing trio of authority, rings his doorbell. And Lucas’s solitude takes a startling hike. They demand to see his frying pan. Someone left one next to the recycling room overnight, and instead of removing the errant object, as Lucas suggests, they insist on finding the guilty party. But their plan backfires. Colossally.

It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

The 13 chapters of The Art of War, each devoted to one aspect of warfare, were compiled by the high-ranking Chinese military general, strategist, and philosopher Sun-Tzu. In spite of its battlefield specificity, The Art of War has found new life in the modern age, with leaders in fields as wide and far-reaching as world politics, human psychology, and corporate strategy finding valuable insight in its timeworn words.

Story
When Heather McKinley dreamed of becoming a doctor, she imagined curing sick kids and sporting pink stethoscopes. She never anticipated the sleepless nights, grueling exams, and endless labs. And she certainly never knew that her medical school earned the nickname Dead Med thanks to the tragic history of students overdosing on illegal drugs. But Heather would never consider doing anything like that. That is, until her longtime boyfriend dumps her, she finds herself failing anatomy, and her world starts to crumble.

Glad that this was short
I did not find this story humorous nor did I find this story interesting. Despite this volume being short as it is, I still ended up struggling half way through. I actually ended up checking at least 4x on the number of chapter I had left till the finish of this volume. For me, this ended up feeling way longer than what it really was.

Great escape
If you could sum up The Cop in three words, what would they be?
Great escape, funny
What did you like best about this story?
I loved listening to Simone's latest dating adventure (or should I say, misadventure, LOL). This book is about a sexy cop who becomes a little too possessive for Simone's liking, but the way it's written is so dang funny. Very realistic in some ways, but also so funny in how the whole thing gets resolved. There were scenes in this book that had me in stitches. One of the funniest books in this series. I've recommended it to all my friends. It's now our book-club selection for next month.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. Really fun book to listen to with lots of humor. A great escape from life's worries.
Any additional comments?
I loved all the books in this series, but this one was my favorite. It was outlandish in places, funny, well-written, and just plain good entertainment. I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook.

Enjoyable and funny!
Who was your favorite character and why?
I love Simone. She's brash, strong, witty, and fearless.
Have you listened to any of Elizabeth Powers’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
She's a very talented narrator.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book was extremely enjoyable to listen to. I laughed a lot at the funny scenes. The writing and narration were very good.
Any additional comments?
This was one of the most enjoyable books I've listened to in a long time. Everyone has gone through interesting dating experience, and Simone's adventures brings it all back: the good, the bad, and the ugly. When will poor Simone ever catch a break? Not in this book, that's for sure! :) Just when she thought she finally found a respectable man and could put all the weirdos behind her, she hits the wacko jackpot in Book 4. Unlucky in love, Simone "sure knows how to pick 'em" and she sure picked one crazy cop! Love the bridal shower/bachelorette party scene and the super fun old ladies. SO FUNNY! Although Simone has bad luck with men, there's never a dull moment in her life, and never a dull moment for the readers! I loved this book and the entire series.

Hilarious!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This was one of the funniest books I've listened to in a long time. The main character, Simone, is a riot! She's trying to find a great guy to take to her best friend's wedding, but she keeps meeting these duds (as we all do when we're dating). This book about the cop took the cake. Sooo funny. The scene at the restaurant had me laughing out loud so much that I had to replay it. Very funny installment of a very enjoyable and humorous book. Highly recommended.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Cop?
The scene in the restaurant with the elderly women. Hilarious!
What about Elizabeth Powers’s performance did you like?
She really brought out the humor in the book. Plus she narrates steamy scenes well. As Simone would say, "Ooo-la-la!" ;)
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed. A lot.
Any additional comments?
Great series. I thoroughly enjoyed each of these books, especially this one.
