About this listen

In the wake of a dark and brutal war, the glitz and glamour of 1925 Manhattan shine like a beacon for the high-society set who are desperate to keep their gaze firmly fixed toward the future. But Delphine Duplessi sees more than most. At a time in her career when she could easily be unknown and penniless - like so many of her classmates from L'Ecole des Beaux Arts - she has gained notoriety in America for her stunning shadow portraits.

But then, on a snowy night in February in a penthouse high above Fifth Avenue, Delphine's mystical talent leads to a tragedy between two brothers. Devastated and disconsolate, Delphine renounces her gift and returns to her old life in the south of France, where Picasso, Matisse, and the Fitzgeralds are summering. There, Delphine comes to question everything and everyone she loves - her art, her magick, her family, and Mathieu....

entrancing book!

the narrator's accent was delightful. Right in keeping with the setting of the story. And the story took a couple of nice little twists. So although one knew pretty much the very bottom line of how it would end, not quite how it would get there.

La Lune #3

Delphine is the La Lune daughter in this 3rd installment of this series. She is an artist that creates shadow portraits in which she sees character traits or secrets of her subjects. Another enjoyable read.

Best story of the trilogy

I enjoyed this story of the LaLune witches most of this trilogy. The narration was lovely and the storyline very engaging. That said, I did enjoy listening to all three books ... I like the main character change from title to title, yet many characters were woven throughout all three titles. Overall, a relaxing and delightful experience. I would like to see another title for the next daughter of LaLune released!

Beautifully written

It transported me everytime to France and that era, and I couldn’t put it down. Hoping for the fourth one.

Wouldn't recommend it

I usually like books by M.J.Rose but was very disappointed with this one. Witch of Painted Sorrows is the best
one I have "read" so far. It begins the daughters of lelune series so I expected book 3 to at least be entertaining. The writing was cliche and the narrator had a limited range.
