About this listen

By chance, Madison Harper, best-selling novelist, happens upon the story of three boys that have gone missing in the San Bernardino mountains of Southern California during the past twenty years. The only resolution the authorities can come up with is that they were all killed by mountain lion attacks. She finds their three separate stories intriguing. Research and interviews with their friends and families make her decide that their stories and eventual disappearances become the subject of her next book. The first boy vanished while on a group hike. He couldn’t keep up and was directed to wait by the trail, while the group continued without him. They intended to pick him up on their way back. But, despite hundreds of searchers spending hundreds of hours looking for him— he was never seen again. A few years later, the second boy to go missing, a local of Grizzly Lake, disappeared while playing near a picnic area. Hundreds looked for him, for days both on foot and on horseback, he too was never seen again. The third boy that disappeared was camping with his family in a designated campground. Again, hundreds searched and found nothing. However, his partial remains were found eleven months later approximately a mile from the campsite. Why didn’t the hundreds of searchers find his body when he went missing? Why were the volunteer’s opinions about the case discounted by authorities? Are the missing boy cases connected? Is there one perpetrator, spanning twenty-years, or does each case have a different ending? How can she, an author, solve cases the police weren’t willing or able to solve? Luckily, Madison’s former fiancé, an agent with the FBI, has many tools at his disposal, and Madison’s unique use of those tools helps in her search for truth and justice for the boys and their families.
