About this listen

Ashlyn MacLeod's life is all she ever wanted. She lives in London, attends a world-renowned university, and is one step away from getting her PhD in archaeology. Everything is going exactly as planned, until a humiliating rejection forces her home to the Scottish Highlands. Struggling with the loss of such a huge opportunity, she begins an excavation on her family's rural property, in an effort to finish her dissertation and save her career. As she digs into the wet dirt, she unearths much more than she bargained for.

The sight takes her breath away. She never could have imagined that she'd uncover a blue skinned man, seemingly buried alive under tons of rock for an unimaginably long period of time.

The man, Reus, as she would come to know him, is lean, muscled, and barely alive. When he finally takes his first breath and opens his eyes, she immediately feels captivated by him. Who is he? What is he? And why does she feel such a magnetic connection to him?

As Ashlyn and Reus both struggle with their new reality, they must answer two essential questions: what happens if he's discovered, and how will they get him home?

UNEARTHED is a standalone sci-fi romance but second in The Sirilians series. UNEARTHED gives away the plot of book 1, ADRIFT, so if you want to be wowed by ADRIFT, I recommend reading it first. I loved it because the writing is crisp; the story is original and utterly riveting to read because of the gripping romantic mystery it contains.

UNEARTHED was engaging and romantic too, but not as compelling as ADRIFT. It also included scenes direct from ADRIFT and this annoyed me because ADRIFT was fresh in my mind. While some of those scenes helped provide background, I thought the same information could have been conveyed another way.

Narrator Lessa Lamb performed beautifully. I loved her representations of all the characters. The story is set in Scotland and she seamlessly moved through Scottish and English accents (while keeping her native north American accent to narrate the non-dialogue parts of the story); and she represented all the characters admirably.

I recommend the Sirilians Series and look forward to more work crafted by this author and this narrator.

3.5 stars. Listen to ADRIFT first.

Even though I loved all the previous books in these interwoven series, I wasn't sure I would like this one from the description alone. Even in the first few chapters I was skeptical. That is... Until Ashlyn Macleod goes home, digs up a sexy, blue alien and you meet her entire family full of characters. I love how they communicated even though he could understand her but she couldn't understand him. I loved how they didn't let their very significant physical differences (yet in retrospect, not so significant) stop them from falling in love. I loved her supportive family with all their different personalities and quirks. I wanted to know more about all of them especially her brother Conall which I got in the next book. Finally, I loved the closure and happy ending this story gave Reus and Karo from the last book. Trust me, it's worth the listen!

If I thought I loved Lessa Lamb's narrations before... OMG the accents! Her Scottish Brogue was AWESOME! It made the story so much more authentic. I can't say enough. Read/Listen to the series, Start from the beginning! You will be sad when you reach the end, like I was, because you just want more!

This book is best enjoyed after reading the first three Arathian books, along with Adrift, the first Sirilian book.
I didn’t think I’d care for a story where the Earth woman scientist digs up the long-buried alien-in-stasis, but I did. Krizek has the creativity to write an interesting storyline and series, and to interest you in her characters.
Lamb is a good pairing with Krizek.

I definitely recommend this book! I think this story is extremely well written and narrated. This storyline has action, intrigue, suspense, mystery and romance.
The narrator does a fabulous job with the characters and voices of each character which makes it easy to distinguish between the characters. She does a fantastic job with male and female voices. She also is the perfect choice because she adds the best performance of the characters. I was definitely amazed by her performance.

Fantastic series!

This second book in Nicole Krizek’s series was just delightful to listen to. I love sci-fi romance, and this author has a way of making the characters and situations so believeable. The heroine is a Scottish archeologist who is home to do a dig on her family’s farm where there is a “fairy mound”. It’s not her first choice after losing out on another dig, but she needs it to finish her PhD and there’s family dynamics that are a little unsteady as well. When she begins her excavation, what she finds is astounding- a man who comes to life after she accidentally bumps something and he’s blue! The story of their romance despite him being able to speak her language, knowing he can’t stay on Earth because he’s an alien and how long he’s obviously been there make for a fantastic, entertaining story that I loved. The narration was perfectly done. I hope that the author writes more in this series!

Unusual and delightful romance!
