As a board-certified physician in both Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Management, Dr. Rita Hancock specializes in helping her patients achieve optimal function in spite of their arthritic, painful joints. One way she does this is by helping them lose weight. Dr. Rita has not only Ivy League training in nutrition and the psychology of obesity, but she also speaks from personal experience. She personally overcame a compulsive eating disorder and lost 75 pounds and kept it off for for over 27 years. Since true health requires wellness in three dimensions: mind, body, and spirit, Dr. Rita also counsels her patients in regard to their emotional and spiritual well-being. This approach has allowed her to get to the root of otherwise unexplained pain and/or stress-induced illness in a large number of patients. Dr. Rita's books include The Eden Diet (Zondervan 2008) and The Eden Diet Workbook, which are about learning to eat in response to physical rather than emotional hunger. And her latest book is called Radical Well-being: A Biblical Guide to Overcoming Pain, Illness, and Addictions (Siloam, January 8, 2013). Radical Well-being offers a road map for finding relief if you suffer with conditions such as fibromyalgia, migraine headaches, neck or back pain, irritable bowels, depression, anxiety, or compulsive behaviors like overeating, consuming drugs or alcohol, over-spending, etc.--especially if you desire a biblical approach to the management of those conditions. To enhance your well-being, Dr. Rita also produced a series of twenty-two minute audio recordings for stress-management and weight control. The series is called "Godly Affirmations For Weight Control" and is available on Amazon.com in the digital recordings store. Her specific recordings are entitled, "A Battle With The Flesh" (for food cravings control), "A Walk on the Beach" (for relief from emotional eating), "A Picnic at the Lake" (for eating properly at social events), and "A Walk in the Forest" (for learning to love exercise). Dr. Rita writes from the Christian perspective and lives in Oklahoma City with her husband and children.
