Marvelous Series - just one omission
Reviewed: 06-10-24
Absolutely adored this last (?) in the eighteen book series. The JW & OC team are certainly in my Hall of Fame. I believe there's only one glaring omission and that's the apprenticeship with Maurice Blanche. A flashback to that period could be an amazing 2 book addition to the series. The mentorship of Dr Blanche, fascinating cases and remarkable characters Maisie would have been exposed to would be the real icing on the cake.

Doyle was back at Scotland Yard after taking maternity leave, and the powers-that-be had decided they’d ease her way by assigning her to assist DS Isabella Munoz, which was a fate only slightly worse than death. Annoying, it was, that she had to answer to Munoz; not to mention that Munoz wasn’t given many high-quality homicide assignments in the first place.

Narration an Issue
Reviewed: 06-20-21
I absolutely adore this series & yes we're constrained by a global pandemic - getting narrators probably is difficult - however, the general narration has a distinct US English sound and the characters are for the most part UK. It's distracting and slightly disappointing. AC's episode of our heroes is lovely and I'll continue the series regardless - additionally should the narrator do other books - I wouldnt
hesitate to purchase - she's great - imo not for this series

The story was adequate however with dozens of characters, the narrator was underwhelming. Armitage should have had at least 2 people to assist. Additionally, most of the female voices were poor.

Scotland Yard Detective Superintendent Duncan Kincaid and his wife, Detective Inspector Gemma James, have been invited for a relaxing weekend in the tranquil Cotswolds, one of Britain’s most beautiful and historic regions. A centerpiece of this glorious fall getaway is a posh charity luncheon catered by up-and-coming chef Viv Holland. But a tragic car accident followed by a series of mysterious deaths could ruin her ascent. Each piece of information that surfaces makes it clear that the killer had a connection with Viv’s pub - and perhaps with Beck House itself.
