I love this book for million reasons and it will be in my head for awhile. Just read it. Especially read it if you are someone who claims to not know your history or if you need inspiration to be a better person or if you are white.

Story
Ten-year-old Annemarie Johansen and her best friend Ellen Rosen often think of life before the war. It's now 1943, and their life in Copenhagen is filled with school, food shortages, and the Nazi soldiers marching through town. No one would regret taking time for this important story

I remember reading this in fifth grade but I don’t remember what it was about. I just reread it in a day for my son’s exposition and composition assignments. It’s so good! I think this is a great book to teach kids quality adjectives and strong verbs. As far as the story goes, it got in my head and messed with me which is why gave it such a good rating. It’s definitely worth a rainy afternoon to read… Or housework to listen to.

Story
One of the most important novels in classic literature, Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter tackles the subject of adultery, with the notorious Hester Prynne at the forefront of the scandal in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. In the beginning of the novel, Hester is serving time in prison for having a child out of wedlock and is forced to wear a scarlet A on her clothing at all times, so she cannot run from her sin no matter where she goes.

I like to read books without knowing anything about them. I want to just experience it. The problem with this is that so much of the story only makes sense within its historical context. So without knowing any of that, so many people in this story are huge jerks and the way they view sin, adultery, single moms and clergy is annoying. The main character seems sweet. The voice that the reader uses for the little girl is irritating. She also re-reads a few lines on accident. I didn't love this story, but it did keep my company for a day without losing me so I didn't hate it.

Story
A masterpiece of satire, this classic has entertained and enlightened readers the world over with its sly and ironic portrayal of human life from the vantage point of Screwtape, a highly placed assistant to "Our Father Below". At once wildly comic, deadly serious, and strikingly original, C. S. Lewis gives us the correspondence of the worldly-wise old devil to his nephew Wormwood, a novice demon in charge of securing the damnation of an ordinary young man. The Screwtape Letters is the most engaging and humorous account of temptation - and triumph over it - ever written.

The reader has a fantastic voice for this Lewis classic, but I do think this book would be better read than listened to. Lewis is just too rich and thought-provoking. I needed more time to process his writing. That being said, I'm sure I will listen over and over at different points in my life because there will always be something to take away.

Theologically rich yet down to earth and practical, Garden City speaks to all of us who are searching for our calling in life or just trying to find meaning in the everyday. In the end this audiobook is an invitation to ask the ancient, primal, human question: Why am I here, and what should I do about it?
