Telling a long range story from three successive viewpoints, the book takes what could be 3 stories and weaves them into one satisfying finish. Although well written as a novel, the audiobook takes us into a higher level, with the different types of people able to express in their unique ways. Highly recommended!

Sadly, it is hard to get through the audio version as the reader gives one quite a headache!

Good story, well written and in keeping with the other Liaden books.

Another gem from Lee and Miller

Yes, its another great work from Lee and Miller. If you enjoy their work, you will find that this one doesn't disappoint. The characters are deep and rich, and the story line holds one's attention. This book will mean more to you if you have read the previous ones in the short series. (Arc of the Covenants). It is not necessary to read all the other 30 or so books that exist. Of course, once you have discovered these books you will want to hunt down every story available.

I'm delighted that the audio version is read by Eileen Stevens, who is my favorite among the Liaden readers. She has a way with the Liaden, Surebleak and Bedel accents that makes the characters readily identifiable, and she never gives me a headache.

Intro to a New Series

This book was a good intro to a new series by author Julia Buckley, well written, with good character development. I do always have a bit of trouble with love at first sight, but I'm willing to suspend my disbelief in this instance, for details that would be a spoiler if I divulged them.

However - someone need to get with the reader, and give her a few lessons. Petit four is NOT pronounced with the final T; it should be silent. And the French accent should not sound like the Hungarian accent, thank you very much.

Other than that, the reading was good.

This book could be triggering and upsetting. There is a lot of racial prejudice in it. I'm re-listening to a lot of Ngaio Marsh work that I read decades ago.

In addition, there is fat phobic nastiness. I don't really recommend the book.

The reader was great.

Haven't wanted to finish this one

If you read the previous book in the series, you know that the heroine is supposed to be over 300 years old. She looks like she is in her 20s and has less maturity than that. She is undereducated, doesn't understand relationships or dating, and has tons of unresolved emotional issues.

The reader is still fabulous, but I find myself not caring tremendously what happens to the heroine. She wanders through stupidly contrived scenarios (hasn't mastered calendar management, for example). She's socially awkward in the extreme and makes up bad lies.

I'm tremendously disappointed.

It's a cozy mystery with not enough clues and an annoying heroine. Her insistence on vegan cuisine - with exotic ingredients not sustainable in her local ecosphere - is irritating and annoying. However, the reader has an amazing voice and her French accented characters are the best.

I'm hoping the writing will improve in later books.

I was lying in bed listening to the end of this book, and I just had to get up and write about how good it is. Except all I kept saying when I had finished the book was, "Oh my gosh!" over and over again. I had started to read this book once before and never got more than halfway through because I didn't like Antimony Price. She always whined so about her sister, any time I was getting to like her. This time I was listening to the audible version. When I passed the point at which I had stopped reading before, I was on the edge of my seat. Seanan McGuire's writing and Emily Bauer's reading of this fabulous story should not be missed. The plot twists, the amount of growth and depth of the characters, even the incredible descriptions of things, are above and beyond so much of what is out there.

I really wasn't sure about the audible version, since this same reader read the books about Verity Price, and I associated her voice with Verity's character. But she pulled it off. The scenes that Verity are in, I can "hear" Verity, but when she reads Antimony, its a different person. And so good!

I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars.

Peter Wimsey Rides Again

If you have missed the continuation of Dorothy Sayers' beloved series under the loving hand of Jill Patton Walsh, you are in for several treats. This is the third book in the extended series, and one of my favorites. Edward Petherbridge does a lovely job of reading it. (I believe he is the same Edward Petherbridge who played Peter Wimsey in the 80s). I DO recommend reading them in order, of course. Any of them will stand alone as a mystery - but the continuation of the personal histories of the Wimsey family is best carried on in proper order.

Having it read to me in a British voice is a delicious treat. I highly recommend both the Kindle and the audible combination.
