Story
The remote island of Masquapaug has not seen a dragon in many generations—until fifteen-year-old Anequs finds a dragon’s egg and bonds with its hatchling. Her people are delighted, for all remember the tales of the days when dragons lived among them and danced away the storms of autumn, enabling the people to thrive. To them, Anequs is revered as Nampeshiweisit—a person in a unique relationship with a dragon.

Story
From the depths of the darkest myths, the soulless Plague People have returned. Their pale-walled camps obliterate villages, just as the terror they bring with them destroys minds. In their wake, nothing is left of the true people: not their places, not their ways. The Plague People will remake the world as though they had never been. The heroes and leaders of the true people - Maniye, Loud Thunder, Hesprec and Asman - will each fight the Plague People in their own ways.

Good, not great
Reviewed: 06-19-24
The biggest issue is the narrator, who's stilted performance made the writing feel blocky and unfinished. Compared to other works from the author, this series is a little more trite and the there was a major glut of restating the same concept or character backstreet over and over. It felt a little pandering as well. Rainbow girls and abused girls are the ones who have the secrets to save the world, and those who choose beauty and technology over primative values are soulless. Kind of strange. It was good. Just, not great.

Great story, one in a fantastic series. the narrator is good but feels rushed sometimes, especially in sections without character dialogue. Mostly good though! There is an audio error with 4:41 left in the book. Sounds like a crease in cassette tape or something.

Robin Hobb is a great story teller. I don't know why they chose a whispery lady for a pirate story.... she trys very hard to draw out words slowly, sometimes sounding as if she has a mouthful of saliva. . r's are drawn out purring and it just makes it hard to follow.

Story
Prodigal Summer weaves together three stories of human love within a larger tapestry of lives in southern Appalachia. At the heart of these intertwined narratives is a den of coyotes that have recently migrated into the region. Deanna Wolfe, a reclusive wildlife biologist, watches them from an isolated mountain cabin where she is caught off-guard by Eddie Bondo, a young hunter who comes to invade her most private spaces and her solitary life.

Since his wife died, Ralph Roberts has been having trouble sleeping. Each night he wakes up a bit earlier until he's barely sleeping at all. During his late-night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people's heads, two strange little men wandering around town after dark, and more. He begins to suspect that these visions are something more than hallucinations brought on by lack of sleep.
