But after a massive crash, they’re the only survivors to wash ashore on an uncharted Caribbean Island. Armed with only the clothes on their backs and zero survival skills, they fight to overcome hunger, thirst, deadly wildlife—and most terrifyingly—decades of accrued resentment. What was this about again?

I've never read a book before where I finished it and didn't know what it was about! It's like a series of unfortunate events, but no big plots because things get resolved quickly and the next story happens.

Took me forever to finish because I had to keep rewinding or skipping back to chapters to figure out what was going on

Story
It is the present day, and the world is as we know it: smartphones, social networking, and Happy Meals. Save for one thing: The Civil War never occurred. A gifted young black man calling himself Victor has struck a bargain with federal law enforcement, working as a bounty hunter for the US Marshal Service. He's got plenty of work. In this version of America, slavery continues in four states called "the Hard Four". On the trail of a runaway known as Jackdaw, Victor arrives in Indianapolis knowing that something isn't right—with the case file, with his work, and with the country itself.

Too much description
Reviewed: 08-07-16
Great story, but the writing wasn't what I'm accustomed to reading for this genre. Chapters were too long, descriptions were long and many, and the jumping back and forth from past to present events was hard to keep up with.
