Story
From trips on private jets and encounters with world leaders to shocking accounts of misogyny and double standards behind the scenes, this searing memoir exposes both the personal and the political fallout when unfettered power and a rotten company culture take hold. In a gripping and often absurd narrative where a few people carelessly hold the world in their hands, this eye-opening memoir reveals what really goes on among the global elite.

So good and so painful
Reviewed: 03-22-25
Living through all of this as a Facebook user, once very much in love with it, now very much disappointed and scared of it…Wynn-Williams shares the behind the scenes of all the news and suspicions we have had. She also illustrates the toxicity of women in tech, not just at Facebook, through her own experience. I didn’t know I would also be entertained and laugh out loud at parts, that was a bonus. I hope we heed her epilogue warning about AI. Fascinating and fast times we live in.

For 16 years, Angela Merkel bore the governmental responsibility for Germany, leading the country through numerous crises and shaping German and international politics and society with her actions and attitude. But Angela Merkel was not born a Chancellor. In her memoirs, co-written with her long-standing political advisor Beate Baumann, she looks back on her life in two German states—35 years in the GDR (German Democratic Republic), 35 years in reunified Germany.

Dry and factual

I think there are other books out there that describe this great leader better than she describes herself. I only made it partway through part 2, and like other reviews say…it read like dry lists or general information. The historical context was interesting for sure. I would have loved to hear more insight or storytelling from her to help understand the thinking or personal context and emotions behind the information or lists. However, reading about her from others it sounds like this is her personality—very matter of fact.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

History is repeating itself

I heard about this book from a Dan Savage interview. He said everyone should read it with a critical ear to what is happening right now in the US with ultra conservative fascism. It was haunting how whole passages could be replicated today with US culture, Fox News, and Trump era leadership and politics. Take heed and take care, what democracy we have remaining is on the line.

Story
Let us journey, with beloved physicist Carlo Rovelli, into the heart of a black hole. We slip beyond its horizon and tumble down this crack in the universe. As we plunge, we see geometry fold. Time and space pull and stretch. And finally, at the black hole’s core, space and time dissolve, and a white hole is born. Rovelli has dedicated his career to uniting the time-warping ideas of general relativity and the perplexing uncertainties of quantum mechanics. In White Holes, he reveals the mind of a scientist at work.

Even though I don't agree with all of Elizabeth's perspective on creativity, I do agree it's a topic to be curious about and to pursue our relationship with. This book inspires that exploration and for that I am very grateful. She also does give lots of tangible suggestions on how to go about practically creating, and that is always helpful. I love the way she reads her books, the same way she writes them...in a real and personable way.
