Great book, great system, great story
Reviewed: 01-29-20
As the title says, the book, story, and magic system (among other things) are great! The video game-like aspects and the prompts that come up make me feel like I’m the one playing Richter’s MMORPG-to-real-life experience. Really, my only complaint is that the “DING” sound and having the book read a lot of prompts can hurt the ears in contrast to the narrator’s relatively moderate-volume voice. But that’s an extremely minimal thing even though it does occur a lot. I don’t mind the prompts though. Those prompts are what give me more of an idea of how well Richter is power scaling. I’ve always had a problem with many different magic systems. As they often find some bogus way to fire off some crazy ultimate spell when they clearly don’t have the mana, nor strength, to do so (anime’s are rife with this). So seeing a book out real values to damage, mana costs, stamina, and other things helps me feel like the fights would be possible even in a DnD campaign. Books that can give a clear understanding of what a spell is such that the reader can then be impressed by the character’s ingenuity in using said spell are books that I find far more intriguing.

h esgedgghed.... sorry had to get that off my chest. So this book has an amazing story and well worth listening to. But I personally don't agree with what happened to the main character of the previous series. I don't think it would have happened but because of it it made a good story and I can't wait to listen to the next one.

Story
Tensions are mounting after a devastating battle before the walls of Shaliyah, birthplace of the Prophet. The East is rising, bringing equal measures of hope and despair to the magical world of Urte. For some, Salim's victory is a call to arms; for others it is evidence of a world gone mad. While the armies of East and West clash in brutal conflict, emperors, inquisitors, Souldrinkers, and assassins all have their attention turned elsewhere as they hunt the Scytale of Corineus.

Better than the last book

The last two books were confusing for me, tho I was listening, the story line didn't make sense. now it is like a giant web that connects all the characters together in an amazing way.

Story
Most of the time the Moontide Bridge lies deep below the sea, but every 12 years the tides sink and the bridge is revealed, its gates open for trade. The Magi are hell-bent on ruling this new world, and for the last two Moontides they have led armies across the bridge on "crusades of conquest". Now, the third Moontide is almost here, and this time the people of the East are ready for a fight... but it is three seemingly ordinary people that will decide the fate of the world.

Confusing Story
Reviewed: 12-23-15
So the story is really good. Love the way they do the magic, but there is some inconsistency in the story. The characters have little to no introduction and it jumps to different characters almost randomly. This book didn't get me emotionally attached like others have. I feel that is because the you don't get a proper into.

Story
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.
