Nice lightweight, heartfelt story that was read like a The Bobbsey Twins selection. The story wallowed and mired frequently in low self esteem the was too gratuitous .

Story
Did you know that there are more penises than women in the Bayeux Tapestry? That the Peasants’ Revolt of 1381 was started and propelled by women who were protesting a tax on women? Or that Charles Darwin believed not just that women were naturally inferior to men, but that they’d evolve to become ever more inferior? These are just a few of the startling findings you will learn from listening to Philippa Gregory’s Normal Women. In this ambitious book, she tells the story of England over 900 years, for the very first time placing women—some fifty per cent of the population—center stage.

Story
Medieval queens were seen as mere dynastic trophies, yet many of the Plantagenet queens of the High Middle Ages dramatically broke away from the restrictions imposed on their sex, as Alison Weir shows in this gripping group biography of England's fourteenth-century consorts. Using personal letters and wonderfully vivid sources, Alison Weir evokes the lives of five remarkable queens: Marguerite of France, Isabella of France, Philippa of Hainault, Anne of Bohemia and Isabella of Valois.

I really enjoy this presentation. It is written so beautifully, It crafts an experience from what is just tired, often repeated events into experiences. It delivers listening to an interesting story. Very detailed and showcases the lives of interesting historical figures in a very personal way. It is history brought to life in timeline format that actually entertains. Very nice performance on the read. If the subject matter interests you, I highly recommend this book in audio format.

Story
Less than 250,000 people live in the Northern Territory, an area more than twice the size of Texas. If you want to escape from civilisation, you don’t have to go far. But you can’t outrun the heat. Every year during October and November the sweltering climate can drive people wild; they call it ‘Suicide Season’, ‘Mango Madness’ or, more plainly, ‘The Build-up’. It’s during this blistering heat that Jim O’Connell’s body is found in a creek bed, mummified and with his genitals removed.

Although the subject matter is rather horrific, I really enjoyed this listen. The story and the work done here is very engaging and compelling. Narration is very clear, well edited and well worth the time. I will definitely be recommending it.

Story
The Remains of the Day is a profoundly compelling portrait of the perfect English butler and of his fading, insular world in postwar England. At the end of his three decades of service at Darlington Hall, Stevens embarks on a country drive, during which he looks back over his career to reassure himself that he has served humanity by serving "a great gentleman". But lurking in his memory are doubts about the true nature of Lord Darlington's "greatness" and graver doubts about his own faith in the man he served.

This is such an amazing work. What is found hidden and unstated between the lines is sad and so poignant. This aspect is brought full force by Mr. Prebble’s rather laudable talents. The gentle distinction within the performance of dialogue between Mr. Stevens and Miss Kenton is breathtaking if one takes a moment to appreciate the difficulties in this type of format. I have heard this novel many times and never tire of it. Simply beautiful.
