Listening after Esrahaddon

The first time through, years ago, I loved this series. Now, completing it again with a full "true" sense of the world's history, has me in awe of the depth of storytelling here. It's an entirely different story now. It's an emotional journey at a level far beyond the story on its own. Please, if you liked this story, do yourself a favor and get ALL of the rest of the associated books and then come back for another listen. Each of the stories is about their own characters but they're all also and more meaningfully one character's story told over thousands of years. Incredible!

Story
Raising twins deep in a protected wood sounds like an ideal task, but when the kids are dangerously magical and just learning how to control their abilities, life can get dicey. Michael Talbot prepares for a difficult trial as his wife, Azile, the powerful Red Witch, is called away on urgent matters and he is left alone in charge of his challenging offspring. Fortunately, Uncle Mathieu, werewolf and Brew Master, arrives to help out. It should have been a swell reunion for them, but conspiracy and war are upon them overnight.

Mind expanding, suspenseful, masterful. I'm floored by how well this was written and performed. Good enough I'll give it a little while for my thoughts to percolate and then go back for a second run through.

Story
In this, the first prose history in European civilization, Herodotus describes the growth of the Persian Empire with force, authority, and style. Perhaps most famously, the book tells the heroic tale of the Greeks' resistance to the vast invading force assembled by Xerxes, king of Persia. Here are not only the great battles - Marathon, Thermopylae, and Salamis - but also penetrating human insight and a powerful sense of epic destiny at work.

David Timson is PERFECT!
Reviewed: 12-18-21
Herodotus captured the spirit and history and David Timson brought him back to life!! He speaks each word as if he KNOWS that he knows more than the 'reader' and it's just perfect for how I envision Herodotus actually feeling as he wrote this over 2 millennia ago. The history came to life and became very personal stories of people as he could best determine.
