Story
A disturbing tale of a young man's uncanny ability to remain both young and beautiful while descending into a life of heartless debauchery, The Picture of Dorian Gray was considered proof of both Wilde's genius and his perversion. Oscar Wilde's scandalous best seller of 1891 was one of the most damning pieces of evidence used against him in the trial that brought about his downfall.

Not one of Stuart Wood's best

I love to listen to Tony Roberts, so I select these novels. This is not consistent with his past stories and has a very short plot that is extended. Why not give Tony Roberts something better to read? Love his voice!

Story
In 1940, David Sparsholt arrives at Oxford to study engineering, though his sights are set on joining the Royal Air Force. Handsome, athletic, charismatic, he is unaware of his effect on others - especially on Evert Dax, the lonely son of a celebrated novelist who is destined to become a writer himself. With the world at war, and the Blitz raging in London, Oxford nevertheless exists at a strange remove: a place of fleeting beauty - and secret liaisons. A friendship develops between these two young men that will have unexpected consequences as the novel unfolds.

If ;you want to hear a history of homosexuality
Reviewed: 09-21-18
Well written and read, it would probably not appeal to the general listener. I read a review in the FT about the author and was intrigued. The story was very personal and explained the life and secrets that homosexuals had to hold during the repressed era in the UK. It is very lengthy and not for most of us. Also there are characters that you follow in their life and how they all come together.
