I believe a good editor could have made this a good series. So much repetition. I tried to stick with it by just too many unnecessary words.

I listened to In an Instant last week and haven’t listened to any other authors since. This was my favorite so far. Loved it! Listened to this one in two days. This author is really good with characters and does an excellent job of keeping the arc realistic and believable. And all the characters are amazing - not just the main two or three. Going to look for more of her writing!

It’s getting so rare for me to find a book I just can’t keep myself away from. Honestly, I feel lucky when I get one I’m glad to finish. This book was in the first category. I finished it way too quickly and didn’t really do it justice in listening because I kept sneaking 2 or 3 minute listens. I’ll listen again in a few months and see what I missed. Unique storyline - very well planned and executed. I’ll look for more from this author.

I’m sorry. I just didn’t like it. The voices were so overdone it was like listening to the children’s librarian read to five year olds. The main character was likable at first, then just became someone I didn’t really care about. It didn’t pass my Airport Test: If I was reading it at my gate while waiting to board, and I accidentally left it, half finished, would I buy it again to find out what happened? Hard no.

I wanted to like this book. But so many things didn’t make sense. The author would really benefit from using a critique group. The eight year old who acted 4 or 5 was enough to drive me nuts. I listened to the last half speeded up to get it over with.

Irvin Yalom has been important to me for many years. When I was a PhD student learning to be a therapist, his textbook on group therapy taught me more about group therapy than anyone or anything else, with the possible exception of my clients, who always taught me a great deal. His other non-fiction books taught me to be a compassionate and giving therapist and I’d have been much less effective without his books, many of which I’ve read more than once. And his fiction! My favorite of all time!

I sent him an email once, maybe fifteen years ago, telling him what a gift his books were to me - and to my clients. He answered quickly, with kind and encouraging words.

I’d have never picked up a book like this if he hadn’t been the author. This was the first of Marilyn’s books I’ve read, but her parts were just as good. Their willingness to be vulnerable in their writing, especially at such a difficult time in their lives, is exactly what moves this work from a very well written and researched book to a meaningful work that actually helps us on a level that is just unparalleled by any other writer. Irving Yalom has been such a gift to me, as a psychologist and as a human being.

This was such a fun read, I finished it way too quickly. My first read from this author and I’ll look for more from her. Great narration, too!

Really enjoyed this book - so much so that I snuck a few minutes here and there when I should have waited until til I could give a scene my full attention. I’m sure I’ll listen again. Really loved the narration too. I’m picky about narration and I’m so glad I found this book. Very well written.
