Story
1992. All across the United States respectable, upstanding citizens are showing up dead. These deaths could be accidents, and they don’t appear to be connected—until a fatal fall from a high-floor window attracts some unexpected attention. That attention comes from the secretary of defense. All of a sudden he wants an interagency task force to investigate. And he wants Jack Reacher as the army’s representative. If Reacher gets a result, great. If not, he’s a convenient fall guy.

I like the narrator better than anything else. These later books are nothing like the original Lee child books. They sound like pure AI. Boring AI at that.

Terrible narrator joins simple minded author
Reviewed: 06-18-22
Copying other contemporary war historians this is full of detail from various soldiers and Airmans lives on both sides. These are bearable. The absurdities of the historians biases and ridiculous appraisals are not. The narrator is painful to listen to as each line is delivered in a dramatic rhythm with a stress on the last word. And I mean virtually each line. He is just awful

Story
A woman invites a famous artist to use her guesthouse in the remote coastal landscape where she lives with her family. Powerfully drawn to his paintings, she believes his vision might penetrate the mystery at the center of her life. But as a long, dry summer sets in, his provocative presence itself becomes an enigma - and disrupts the calm of her secluded household. Second Place, Rachel Cusk’s electrifying new novel, is a study of female fate and male privilege, the geometries of human relationships, and the moral questions that animate our lives.

The reader unfortunately throws her self into her acting and it’s a dreadful distraction from the book itself which is excellent. I hope it gets re-recorded with someone who can suppress her efforts to be dramatic at every turn possible. Her delivery seems to me to be antipathetic to the wonderful and mysterious prosse of Rachel Cusk.
