Story
Are you interested in real estate investing but there is nothing to buy that makes sense where you live? Are you tired of seeing the amazing success of others investing in markets better suited for buy and hold real estate and wish that could be you? Do you want to take advantage of wealth building opportunities but are frustrated by the fact there just isn't any way to do that until the next market crash? Real estate investing is one of the greatest vehicles to build wealth, but it doesn't make sense in every market. Some locations provide incredible returns, while others make it almost impossible to find a single property that profits. Traditionally, investing out of state has been considered risky and unwise.

Story
Ross Gay’s The Book of Delights is a genre-defying collection of essays that record the small joys that occurred in one year, from birthday to birthday, and that we often overlook in our busy lives. His is a meditation on delight that takes a clear-eyed view of the complexities, even the terrors, in his life, including living in America as a Black man; the ecological and psychic violence of our consumer culture; the loss of those he loves.

it's a nice, light read. it gets better the longer it goes on, and by the end it's pretty funny. it matures alongside the author over the course of the year he writes about.

Warmer temperatures. Fires in the Amazon. Superstorms. These are just some of the effects of climate change that we are already experiencing. The good news is that we can all do something about it. A movement is already underway to combat not only the environmental effects of climate change but also to fight for climate justice and make a fair and livable future possible for everyone. And young people are not just part of that movement, they are leading the way. They are showing us that this moment of danger is also a moment of great opportunity - an opportunity to change everything.

a good motivator for students on how to channel their inner activist!
i do wish there were a few more guidelines for the racial justice work though, since she mentions it's importance so much but focuses on the climate piece for her actions

Story
Crime and gentrification are hot-button issues that easily polarize racially diverse neighborhoods. How do residents, activists, and politicians navigate the thorny politics of race as they fight crime or resist gentrification? And do conflicts over competing visions of neighborhood change necessarily divide activists into racially homogeneous camps, or can they produce more complex alliances and divisions? In Us Versus Them, Jan Doering answers these questions through an in-depth study of two Chicago neighborhoods.

A thorough dive into the racial landscape of Chicago's Uptown and Rogers Park neighborhoods. Helps point to the fact that intentions and politics are often the roots of movements, and dont always correspond with the reality on the ground. Thought provoking.
