Story
It was the most influential marriage of the 19th Century - and one of history’s most enduring love stories. Traditional biographies tell us that Queen Victoria inherited the throne as a naïve teenager, when the British Empire was at the height of its power, and seemed doomed to find failure as a monarch and misery as a woman until she married her German cousin Albert and accepted him as her lord and master. Now renowned chronicler Gillian Gill turns this familiar story on its head, revealing a strong, feisty queen, and a brilliant, fragile prince working together to build a family.

Love the narrator, Rosalyn Landor

I am currently in the process of buying every book that Rosalyn Landor has been the narrator for, she's lovely and not jarring if you're listening in bed but not too "sleepy" if you're listening in your car. She strikes the right balance of both. The book is informative, but yet not boring, and give some juicy details that keeps you interested in dry history. Highly recommend! Happy listening! :)

She begins the journey in rural India with a reincarnation researcher and ends up in a University of Virginia operating room where cardiologists have installed equipment near the ceiling to study out-of-body near-death experiences.

Enjoyed the humor very much. Thought provoking. Recommend it highly even though it seems "dark" in nature. (I am NOT a dark person by ANY stretch of the imagination but things that make you think beyond what you know it excellent mental exercise!

Story
For two thousand years, cadavers have been involved in science's boldest strides and weirdest undertakings. They've tested France's first guillotines, ridden the NASA Space Shuttle, been crucified in a Parisian laboratory to test the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin, and helped solve the mystery of TWA Flight 800. For every new surgical procedure, from heart transplants to gender reassignment surgery, cadavers have been there alongside surgeons, making history in their quiet way.

Awful!

If you are looking for religious confirmation then this would be your book. I mistakely thought it was more spiritual in nature as opposed to Biblical based "proof." (Biblical proof is NOT proof.)
I could only listen to about 30 minutes hoping it would get better, alias, it did not. I only wish the description was more forthcoming to WHAT her proof really was. I feel that I wasted a credit and feel mislead that it was of a more "spiritual" nature and NOT CHRISTIAN/Bible based.

I love the author's sense of humor but the narrator REALLY brings it to life. She is expressive in her reading as opposed to just a dry read.
Couldn't stop listening! Going back for the rest of the series!

Couldn't Get Through It!
Reviewed: 01-22-11
This book is basically a history book in historical form. Dates, places, names. The information hasn't been woven into a historical story, but was left to the dull historical facts. Judith Boyd is a wonderful narrator and is the only reason I got through the first 3 hours. I have purchased SEVERAL books in this time era and this has to be the most boring of all that I have had the misfortune to listen to.
