Listening to this book was like having a conversation with an old friend. At the conclusion I felt like I was parting with my old friend. That is how personable the author, Jeff Chu, related to the audience.

Story
As a teenager and young man, Justin Lee felt deeply torn. Nicknamed "God Boy" by his peers, he knew that he was called to a life in the evangelical Christian ministry. But Lee harbored a secret: He also knew that he was gay. In this groundbreaking book, Lee recalls the events - his coming out to his parents, his experiences with the "ex-gay" movement, and his in-depth study of the Bible - that led him, eventually, to self-acceptance. But more than just a memoir, Torn provides insightful, practical guidance for all committed Christians who wonder how to relate to gay friends or family members - or who struggle with their own sexuality.

Great book bringing healing to a hurting church

I hated that this book had to come to an end. you will grow from listening to this personal and extremely personable account of Justin's faith walk to reconcile his own sam sex attraction and his devotion to God. A loving God who loves Justin and us all, just the way we are.
By the way his impersonation of Eric Cartman from South Park is spot on!! You will be mesmerized by this book an not want to stop listening.

so damn depressing

Look I am only to chapter 16 after faithfully listening to this book for hours. I had to stop because the roller coaster train wreck of Anthony's life is disheartening, devastating, and all too familiar of any christian who has struggled with being gay too. I mean, literally hours of listening to this book which seems to be a tape recording of my own life. I'm now at chapter 16 and Anthony's wife has apparently left him. I say apparently left him because I just cannot seem to continue. is there any hope left for this man. This good man who just does not fit into the church he embraces? If there is a happy ending...when will it come and how will it make up for all the torment and heartbeat the first 8 hours of this book has brought back into my memory. A memory of a life that only knew how to hurt others and yourself because the only thing different is his sexuality. I am so disheartened and don't wish to finish this book...even if the ending is 'healing'. We all know there are too many scars.

Story
At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....
