Story
Miri has spent a year at the king's palace, learning all about being a proper princess. But instead of returning to her beloved Mount Eskel, Miri is ordered to journey to a distant swamp and start a princess academy for three sisters, cousins of the royal family. Unfortunately, Astrid, Felissa, and Sus are more interested in hunting and fishing than becoming princesses. As Miri spends more time with the sisters, she realizes the king and queen's interest in them hides a long-buried secret.

This third book took awhile to get into and we only stuck with it because of how much we loved the other two books. The first thing that turned us off was the pronunciation of Katar which was different from the first two audio books available on audible. Then the introduction of so many new characters was difficult. It took us almost half of the book to really get to know and like the 3 girls. That being said, the way this story wraps up is worth listening to the first half of the book and putting up with some of the nit picky things. The story line was captivating by the end.

Story
"Nope, that little feller don't look like he'll amount to much." That's what almost everyone said about Little Bub. But young Joel Goss knew that Little Bub was a special colt, even though he was a runt. When schoolteacher Justin Morgan asked Joel to gentle the colt, Joel was thrilled. Little Bub proved that size and breed weren't everything. Soon word spread throughout the entire Northeast that this spirited colt could pull heavier loads than a pair of oxen and run faster than thoroughbreds.

We listened to this book as it was suggested by the Sonlight Homeschool Curriculum. My kids are 10, 7 and 5. My two oldest and I really liked this book. They said, "it was a cute story." It was probably my favorite Marguerite Henry book yet.

We listened to this book as it was suggested by the Sonlight Homeschool Curriculum. My kids are 10, 7 and 5. I was really unsure if this book would capture the attention of my kids. My 10 year old was able to follow along and my 7 year old claimed he didn't listen, but I know that he did understand. It did not appeal to the 5 year old. I appreciated how this book really captured the way Boston was right at the start of the American Revolution. This gives me a lot of this to refer back to while we are reading facts in other books. Twelve-year-old Okwaho’s life has suddenly changed. While out hunting with his best friend, his friend is kidnapped by marauders from a neighboring tribe. Okwaho barely escapes back to his village where everyone lives in fear of raids and killings: The five tribes of the Iroquois have been at war with each other for far too long, and no one can even remember what it was like to live in peace. Okwaho seeks only revenge, which will just perpetuate the violence. But before he can retaliate, a visitor with a message of peace comes to him in the woods.

We listened to this book as it was suggested by the Sonlight Homeschool Curriculum. My kids are 10, 7 and 5. We all really appreciated this story once we got a handle on some of the Native American words. This certainly helped my kids remember the Iroquois League of Nations with much more detail than I ever could have hoped for. This is a wonderful book.

Story
Twelve-year-old Samuel Collier is a lowly commoner on the streets of London. So when he becomes the page of Captain John Smith and boards the Susan Constant, bound for the New World, he can’t believe his good fortune. He’s heard that gold washes ashore with every tide. But beginning with the stormy journey and his first contact with the native people, he realizes that the New World is nothing like he imagined. The lush Virginia shore where they establish the colony of James Town is both beautiful and forbidding, and it’s hard to know who’s a friend or foe.

We listened to this book as it was suggested by the Sonlight Homeschool Curriculum. My kids are 10, 7 and 5. They were too young to have the story catch their attention. We put this one on hold until they are a bit older in a few years. We only made it through the first few chapters, so I'm not sure how it finishes.

Story
James, Rhondell, Sharice, and Marcel are four inner-city students on a quest to build the world’s largest tetrahedron with their math teacher, Mr. Collins. If they succeed, maybe Rhondell will make new friends, Sharice’s foster mother may start to care, James will discover something he’s good at, and Marcel’s dad will finally see that there is more to life than barbecue. Maybe they’ll even end up in the Guinness Book of World Records!

We listened to this book as it was suggested by the Sonlight Homeschool Curriculum. My kids are 10, 7 and 5. As the adult, I certainly liked this book the most. I really appreciated how there was back story to each of the kids and the teacher. My kids were mostly interested and I think the voice cast helped keep their attention. I'm not sure how they felt about the overall story, but they are currently working on building a tetrahedron, so it at least inspired them.
