This book was a hard list for me at times. In 1968 I lost my brother Tom on April 26. He died during an attack and allowed his buddies to get on the helicopter to escape sacrificing his own life. He was killed near Pliny.
I am a retired registered nurse, and so many things here at home. I’m glad to see that the Vietnam vets have finally gotten recognition, I’ve been to the Wall several times. I’m glad I read this book.

Story
The Roaring Twenties—the Jazz Age—has been characterized as a time of Gatsby frivolity. But it was also the height of the uniquely American hate group, the Ku Klux Klan. Their domain was not the old Confederacy, but the Heartland and the West. They hated Blacks, Jews, Catholics and immigrants in equal measure, and took radical steps to keep these people from the American promise. And the man who set in motion their takeover of great swaths of America was a charismatic charlatan named D.C. Stephenson.

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Revisionist view of the Civil War

Antietam is my second book in James Reasoner’s series. The story line is interesting but it appears to favor the Confederacy to a fault. The characters are all hard working people and the slaves enjoy their lot. What a wonderful fairytale. The southerners are all polite and chivalrous and the federals were all beasts who wanted to take away their right to own slaves.

Story
Don and Mimi Galvin seemed to be living the American dream. After World War II, Don's work with the Air Force brought them to Colorado, where their 12 children perfectly spanned the baby boom: the oldest born in 1945, the youngest in 1965. In those years, there was an established script for a family like the Galvins—aspiration, hard work, upward mobility, domestic harmony. But behind the scenes was a different story: psychological breakdown, sudden shocking violence, hidden abuse. By the mid-1970s, six of the 10 Galvin boys, one after another, were diagnosed as schizophrenic.

I come from a family of six children. My youngest brother suffered from Schizophrenia. He died of Leukemia a side effect of psychotropic drugs. Some of the events described could have come verbatim from my family history. Another brother committed suicide not long after. This book shines a new light on this horrible disease.

She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times...and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, mother, their teenaged son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn't, her world begins to crumble. And its shocking secrets are laid bare.

The story line is great but there are too many chapters. A lot of time is spent going back and forth. It’s distracting to the story. I understand the time line but each little detail can bog it down.
