Story
Packed with new reporting, Tired of Winning: Donald Trump and the End of the Grand Old Party tracks Trump’s improbable journey from disgraced and defeated former president to the dominant force, yet again, in the Republican Party. From his exile in Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump has become more extreme, vengeful, and divorced from reality than he was on January 6, 2021. His meddling damaged the GOP’s electoral prospects and his legal troubles were mounting. Yet he re-emerged as the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, and the president-elect.

Hoping, Ever Hoping
Reviewed: 11-15-23
My hope that Donald Trump will become more diminished, and less of a threat to our democracy is based on my faith that more voting American’s will cease to embrace his insanity. My faith is edified by the work of Jonathan Karl’s voice of warning. This work by Karl (and others) is vital if we are to have any hope that our nation and representative democracy is going to survive.
Candidly, the journey Karl takes us all on in “Tired of Winning” makes me more and more desperate for the economy to continue to improve. I’m thrilled that inflation is dropping and that interest rates will continue to come down. I’m ecstatic that union’s are having success in creating higher paying jobs so that we might actually have a restoration of a middle class.
My hope is that there is real quality of life improvements for everyone, and that a bit more prosperity will show up in more households. My hope is that a greater confidence in our nation, coupled with the works from Jonathan Karl will in someway make Trump-ism less and less compelling for anyone.

Story
An epic narrative chronicling the fracturing of the Republican Party, Jeremy Peters’s Insurgency is the story of a party establishment that believed it could control the dark energy it helped foment—right up until it suddenly couldn’t. How, Peters asks, did conservative values that Republicans claimed to cherish, like small government, fiscal responsibility, and morality in public service, get completely eroded as an unshakable faith in Donald Trump grew to define the party?

Story
The story of history is a ceaseless conversation between past and present, and in American Dialogue, Joseph J. Ellis focuses the conversation on the often-asked question "What would the Founding Fathers think?" He examines four of our most seminal historical figures through the prism of particular topics, using the perspective of the present to shed light on their views and, in turn, to make clear how their now centuries-old ideas illuminate the disturbing impasse of today's political conflicts.

One of my all-time favorites
Reviewed: 12-08-19
This work by Joseph Ellis has helped me better understand the tumult and chaos in today’s “dialogue”, or the lack there of. Ellis provided me perspectives which I lacked. I have been changed by this work. Prior to this work, and the works by Colin Woodard, I was happy to be “independent”, but I have been so frustrated by the polarized camps in America today. While I’m not yet hopeful that we as a nation will be able to return to productive dialogues, Ellis has at least helped me understand how I might be a more effective voice.

Required Reading/Listening
Reviewed: 09-20-16
Would you listen to The Ideal Team Player again? Why?
As the Chief of Staff for my organization I am designing and implementing the Team Development programs. These programs are based on The 5 Dysfunctions of Teams, The Ideal Team Player, and Sean Covey's The Four Disciplines of Execution. While "5 Dysfunctions" focuses on team level development, "The Ideal Team Player" focuses on individual development. I find that I "rewind and re-listen" often with Lencioni, and that I stop and take notes (OneNotes) and record thoughts.
What did you like best about this story?
The drama was fantastic. The characters and personalities engaging.
What about Stephen Hoye’s performance did you like?
Hoye's performance was great. I liked his energy and pace.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes!
Any additional comments?
While I began this book thinking about how to teach and share the principles of ideal team players with others, I came away with the determination to change my nature and to become a much better team player. Having and using this book is changing my life and making me a much better team player, and I am making my life a whole lot more fun and exciting.

This is the story of a preacher's kid from North Dakota who grew up to be one of the most innovative leaders of our time. As an NBA fan for 50 years, I found the story both insightful and entertaining. The historical aspects from Phil Jackson were worth the cost alone. The personal leadership insights were unexpected and frosting on a marvelous cake. This was a book that was easy to come back to whenever life interrupted.
I'm glad I bought the book. I expect to listen to it several more times.

Story
As a child, Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating and waiting for suitable prey.

Hard to put down
Reviewed: 06-02-16
The overall production was very good for an audio-only experience. I really had to focus and imagine what I was hearing, but my imagination doesn't match the cinematic experiences of Alien. Still, even with my limitations, I have been happy to leave the TV off in order to listen to the story. Warning: the language often made me wince. I understand the intent to make the emotions of the characters expressive and emphatic, I'm just not accustomed to hearing the expletives. Luckily, this isn't intended to be a bed-time story for children. :-)

Story
In Putin Country: A Journey into the Real Russia, Garrels crafts an intimate portrait of the nation's heartland. We meet ostentatious mafiosos, upwardly mobile professionals, impassioned activists, scheming taxi drivers with dark secrets, and beleaguered steel workers. We discover surprising subcultures, like the LGBT residents of Chelyablinsk who bravely endure an upsurge in homophobia fueled by Putin's rhetoric of Russian "moral superiority" yet still nurture a vibrant if clandestine community of their own.
