Thoroughly enjoyed….

Not as dramatic of a departure from Burke’s usual as I thought, given the other reviews. For those who discount the existence of the spirit world, the storyline admittedly requires a degree of suspended disbelief. However, for those a bit more open minded, it is a richly told tale, with historical highlights against modern day backdrop, reminding us that evil walks the earth as a lion seeking whom it may devour.

The classic account of the LA Canyons scene between 1967 and 1976, featuring Joni Mitchell; Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young; The Eagles; James Taylor; and Jackson Browne. Ambition, betrayal, drugs and genius all combine with great music making.

This is a great overview of the prevailing artistic genre of the late 60's and early 70's--a wistful listen. However, the downside is that it covers a great deal of information, so there's not the space to really dig deep in the gritty details.

Story
Detective Harry Bosch has retired from the LAPD, but his half-brother, defense attorney Mickey Haller, needs his help. The murder rap against his client seems ironclad, but Mickey is sure it's a setup. Though it goes against all his instincts, Bosch takes the case. With the secret help of his former LAPD partner, Lucia Soto, he turns the investigation inside the police department. But as Bosch gets closer to discovering the truth, he makes himself a target.

Nicely Done.

Would you listen to The Crossing again? Why?
Simply put, I enjoy Connelly's style. I'm a details person, so I enjoy the methodical step by step he gives of Harry Bosch's thought processes and investigative "moves," as well as the subtle way he tries to educate the reader in terms of police and courtroom procedure/protocol.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Crossing?
(Spoiler alert) Love when Bosch gets called out on his attempt to pose as a potential house buyer to get a view of the murder scene. Fun to see that your hero is still human and makes mistakes.
