Story
The man he knew as "Control" is dead, and the young Turks who forced him out now run the Circus. But George Smiley isn't quite ready for retirement-especially when a pretty, would-be defector surfaces with a shocking accusation: a Soviet mole has penetrated the highest level of British Intelligence. Relying only on his wits and a small, loyal cadre, Smiley recognizes the hand of Karla - his Moscow Centre nemesis - and sets a trap to catch the traitor.

The greatest spy novel of all time

There is no better work of espionage fiction than TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY; it is the absolute gold standard by which all over spy novels are measured, and to my mind will never be bettered.

Story
Imajica is an epic beyond compare: vast in conception, obsessively detailed in execution, and apocalyptic in its resolution. At its heart lies the sensualist and master art forger Gentle, whose life unravels when he encounters Judith Odell, whose power to influence the destinies of men is vaster than she knows, and Pie "oh" pah, an alien assassin who comes from a hidden dimension.

Epic and sublime
Reviewed: 08-23-20
There is simply no describing this book to anyone who has not read it, so I'll say only that it is an epic of the imagination that must be crawled inside of, lived in, breathed, tasted, and revisited to fully absorb. This was my first audio experience of the book but my fourth reading; I look forward to the fifth with joy and gratitude.

Still the grandmaster of espionage
Reviewed: 03-14-20
I was so delighted to see that le Carré had returned to the narrator's chair (and unabridged, no less!) for this absolutely marvelous tale. There are precious few authors who read their own work with such boundless perfection - - Neil Gaiman is the only other who springs immediately to mind - - and I simply cannot get enough of le Carré in audiobook form. I dearly hope this won't be his last.

Story
Welcome to winter in Three Pines, a picturesque village in Quebec, where the villagers are preparing for a traditional country Christmas, and someone is preparing for murder. No one liked CC de Poitiers. Not her quiet husband, not her spineless lover, not her pathetic daughter - and certainly none of the residents of Three Pines. CC de Poitiers managed to alienate everyone, right up until the moment of her death. When Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, of the Sûreté du Quebec, is called to investigate, he quickly realizes he's dealing with someone quite extraordinary.

Can't wait to start #3, and now I'm more certain than ever that I want to live in Three Pines. I hope every single story in this series is set in the lush, brilliant winter, so I can cuddle up with these books and smell the cool snow and the fires in the hearths of this idyllic little town.

Now Keller is elevated to the highest ranks of the DEA, only to find that in destroying one monster, he has created 30 more that are wreaking even more chaos and suffering in his beloved Mexico.

I'm absolutely addicted to this series and will be sad to see the end of Keller's horrific and honorable exploits in his undying war against the cartels. I've just downloaded THE BORDER, pleased to see Ray Porter is concluding the series; his narration is exquisite, his accents a delight, and his "acting" (as opposed to simply reading) is truly a joy. I will seek out other volumes he has read.

Epic, double-barreled storytelling
Reviewed: 05-02-19
I cannot overstate how much I enjoyed Mr Porter's narration of this epic, pulse-pounding story. It's not just the accents (at which he excels) or the impeccable sense of style and pacing he puts into his performance; Mr Porter has an actor's feel for character and clearly studies the text before reading it aloud. I would have loved this book in its print version, but this is that rare find in which the narrator improves on the story by the sheer force of his performance. Cannot wait to start the next volume!
