While the structure of the Japanese Pimsleur courses are very well done the course content is at times very strange. Approximately a quarter to a third of the content in the first 10 lessons is focused on men looking to pick up women in bars or public places. “You are sitting next to a young woman...” is how many of the practice phrases begin. “Would you like beer or sake?” “At my place or yours?” “Aren’t you going to drink something?” And I mean over and over! The phrase I have memorized best is how to order two beers, and I hate beer!

If you’re a guy looking for this sort of experience in Japan then the Pimsluer course is for you. If not I’d suggest googling Japanese Pod 101, which is what our guide in Japan recommends.

I consider myself to be a hardcore Genesis fan, with a special fondness and appreciation for their 1970-80 catalogue. I have read Armando’s book several times, plus countless magazine and internet articles on the band, but had no idea what a pivotal and crucial role Richard played in their success. There are wonderful and heartfelt stories recalling the early years of Genesis, and also very interesting and humorous accounts of Richard’s adventures. If you’re a fan of the formative years of the band this is a delightful must read.

Great story, but...

Love all the history and backstory but the narrator offers almost no inflection in his voice. As a result a great story is turned to mediocre, suggest skipping the audio version and read this one instead.
