Story
Druss, Captain of the Axe: the stories of his life were told everywhere. Instead of the wealth and fame he could have claimed, he had chosen a mountain lair, high in the lonely country bordering on the clouds. There the grizzled old warrior kept company with snow leopards and awaited his old enemy, death.

I’ve listened to this nearly a dozen times and every time it gives me chills. Heroic fantasy that speaks to the soul of man.

This book is great.

Under the pressures of WotC, RA Salvatore needed to advance the timeline of the series to match the rest of the Realms. This particular book ties up a lot of the loose ends that the "transition" creates. It is very beautifully done.
Also, a lot of people hate on Mark Bramhall, but I think he does a great job. People love Victor Bevine, and so do I, but if Mark had been reading these from the beginning no one would say a bad word about him... except for the "Piekel" thing. :)

Story
Join the world's most famous drow elf in the penultimate chapter of the Legend of Drizzt series! Spending time in the unimaginable torture chambers of the Abyss for even a day would be enough to break even the heartiest soul, and the barbarian Wulfgar was there for years. When he returns, his friends find him a changed man, and not changed for the better. But Wulfgar's road to redemption is one he must travel on his own, even if it leads to the bottle.

Not Salvatore's best work

Better than many have said.

The Spine of the World, though not an essential Drizzt novel is definitely necessary for fans of Wulfgar. There are several subplots in the novel that may not appeal to everyone, but I enjoyed them all. Step into the mind of Wulfgar and witness him discover who he is not who he once was.
Victor Bevine is excellent as always. He is the voice of the Forgotten Realms.

Story
The Gods are dead. The Magelord Salazar and his magically enhanced troops, the Augmentors, crush any dissent they find in the minds of the populace. On the other side of the Broken Sea, the White Lady plots the liberation of Dorminia, with her spymistresses, the Pale Women. Demons and abominations plague the Highlands. The world is desperately in need of heroes. But what they get instead are a ragtag band of old warriors, a crippled Halfmage, two orphans and an oddly capable manservant: the Grim Company.

Better than some give it credit for, but not great.

I probably started this three times before listening through. The narrator does a fair job, but without much difference in his characters I found it somewhat droll. The story is not full of surprises, but I do think Scull built a cool fantasy world. A lot of the likable things are very Glen Cook like, but there are worse things to be compared to. The first two thirds of the story are unremarkable, but if you can stick with it, the final third is engaging. I will wait for a sale to pick up the next title in the series. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't read Abercrombie's work first.
