I’d like to say “everyone must read this book,” but I’m not sure everyone is ready to hear it. If you’re a non-Indigenous person who’s open to hearing and reflecting on hard truths, this book is a must read. The subject is hard and the delivery is direct, yet the writing is clever and wry. I laughed and I grieved simultaneously. I also learned a great deal.

I had to read this for an EMBA class. Some of the passages made me stop dead in my tracks in disbelief about what was being intimated about women. The passage about the village whore was particularly unacceptable. The subject of the book was relevant to my class, but the delivery of the material was absolutely unpalatable. Complained to the Dean. Find a different book about the great financial crisis.

I bought and listened to this because I wanted to hear more about what happened with SNC, but I found so much more within. So helpful to hear an Indigenous person’s perspective on Indigenous rights and governance within the context of current Canadian law. Important insights into our political system, as well. Inspiring.
