Story
This is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of one man's search for meaning in his universe, and how that search, and the indomitable will that drove it, gave birth to a legend.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and performance. It was a listen I'd recommend to any fantasy enthusiast and many non fantasy enthusiasts. The only issue I had with it was that the protagonist wasn't particularly relatable. Some of the events in his life/story are stirring and sad and I felt bad for him at moments, but I didn't feel a connection like I did with Ender, Eregon, Frodo, Kalladin, Vin, or Rand al Thor. I give this story a near perfect score for this reason.
The narrator was fantastic! He had a diverse arsenal of voices which he wielded effectively. He differentiated plenty and I didn't find a single voice that I didn't enjoy listening to. I'm used to a deeper tone, but I felt that the slightly higher pitch wasn't bothersome and in fact befit the story well.

Together with High Wizard Vey, they have reformed the council completely. But while half-wizards can now train their magic freely and join the ranks of the mages, Thordric realizes that there are many who are completely unaware of this. Traveling to the faraway town of Valley Edge, he meets the young archaeologist Hamlet, who is on his way to a dig site where a new discovery has been made. But not all is as it first appears. Once again, Thordric has to put his magic to the test - in order to stop the greatest catastrophe their world has ever seen.

As the second installment in Kathryn Wells' Half Wizard Thordric series, Accidental Archaeologist is a fun listen that is brought to life by Morgan Keller. This story is faster paced and more detailed than the previous book. Some questions left by the first are answered here and others are raised. Hopefully those raised will be answered in the third, which, I am looking forward to.

Story
For his whole life, Thordric has been told that his magic is dangerous, and that he must never use it. All over Dinia, half-wizards are treated the same, their magic labelled as dangerous and uncontrollable. But when High Wizard Kalljard dies under mysterious circumstances, it falls to young Thordric to solve the case. The only trouble? The deed was done by magic, and though Thordric is a half-wizard, he has never fully used his powers. To prove himself right and find the person responsible, Thordric has to learn how to control his own powers.

Pleasantly Surprised

This story was rather fun. The world and magic system were sufficiently interspersed with science and real world themes. It's an enjoyable coming of age book that I'd recommend to any advanced elementary school, jr high school, or high school aged reader.
The audio performance was executed well and allowed for easy visualization without detracting from the story or its characters. In fact, the voice of each character was distinct and crisp permitting differentiation, and hence, little to no confusion during long stretches of dialogue.
