It’s a meh 😳
Reviewed: 11-25-20
Ok without giving to much away, I feel like the first part of the story built pretty slowly for being a sequel. I personally didn’t care for the direction they took with the sequel. I feel like addressing issues in our society in books is fine, but this felt pretty forced. I thought the ending was pretty predictable. Just a meh.

Story
Jessie doesn't hate singer Shelly James - quite the opposite. One summer, she followed Shelly's tour everywhere. But Shelly wasn't flattered; she was terrified by Jessie's devotion - especially after Jessie was arrested. But after a year of therapy, Jessie understands what happened. She's not the same person anymore. Jessie keeps her head down, but when Shelly is found dead, Jessie's troubled past comes tumbling out, and she quickly becomes a suspect in the high-profile murder.

Slow to start
Reviewed: 08-16-20
I have to mention that this book started off quite slowly but then it got really, really good. Jessie Duval had a tough childhood. She cycled through a number of foster homes and at one stage spent 12 months and 9 days locked in a cupboard, her only company a country music CD by country legends Shelley and Owen James. It is therefore unsurprising that she became a little obsessed with the couple. She followed their most recent tour and a misunderstanding lead to her spending a year in prison. Now, out on parole with mandated therapy thrown in and a restraining order against her being anywhere near the couple, 19 year old Jessie is getting her life back on track. She has a place of her own, her own car and a job she loves doing food prep for a catering company. This suits her as she is not good with people and has plenty of anxieties.
However, a chance intersection of circumstances finds her serving drinks at a party being hosted by the James’s. A party Shelley is never present at because she is dead. And Jessie, because her history, rockets to suspect number one. It was impossible not to like Jessie. She was awkward and shy yet determined to sort out her life. The other characters were not fleshed out as well, just enough for their parts in the book.. But Jessie carried this story. Her pain yet subtle strength were inspiring to read about. It’s just a pity it took so long to get to the meat of the story. If you are patient with a slow start I’d recommend this book.

Story
Josie's back and she's getting married! Except, how is she supposed to plan a wedding when her mother and her best friend Mattie both think they're the designated wedding planner, and none of their ideas are remotely similar? Mom wants super-traditional and Mattie wants...well, the complete opposite. And that's not all Josie has to deal with. The gossip hounds are as invasive as ever; setting up polls on everything from what shoes she'll wear to when the divorce will be!

Spoilers!
So I’m happy that she got her happy ending but I hate when the heroine can’t make a decision to save her life. That’s really my only complaint about this series

I didn't choose this path. No one would. I played the cards I was dealt. This life made me. This city made me. I won't apologize for who I've become. Moses wouldn't have me any other way. He says he wants forever, and I'm starting to believe him. But I can't outrun my past, and my sins are catching up with me. If it's time to atone, I'll gladly pay my penance.

Story
The thing about ghosts is they’re supposed to stay dead. That’s exactly what I am, but I can’t stay away from Magnolia Marie Maison for one more day, let alone another year. We’ve already got 15 of those between us. As it stands, she’ll want to kill me as soon as she lays eyes on me. And knowing her, she’s completely up to the task. But I’m a man on a mission, and I’ve got everything riding on this. So, here I come, Magnolia. This ghost is ready for whatever you got. After all, there’s only one way I want this to end - ’til death do us part.

Amazing story, well-written and developed. Magnolia was no-nonsense, sassy and assertive. I love strong, independent heroines, that are smart and Magnolia is by far, my most favorite female characters to this day. I'm a sucker for second chance romances and I am curious to see how this is going to play out especially after how the story ended!!
Would recommend to anyone 10/10
Narration 10/10
