The woman was rude, pushy, manipulative and used her considerable wealth to run herd over the entire town of Mudbug, Louisiana. Unfortunately, death doesn't slow down Helena one bit. DEA Agent Luc LeJeune is wondering what his undercover assignment investigating the sexy scientist has gotten him into - especially as it seems someone wants her dead.

Better to read the story than listen to it
Reviewed: 04-14-15
I just hate it when narrators mispronounce words! Now, maybe its a southern thing, but I know 2 women named Helena. Neither one of them pronounce their name with the second "e" in the long vowel sound. Both of the ladies I know pronounce their names like Helen plus a short "a" on the end. To contently hear one of the main character's name mispronounced was annoying. I couldn't finish the book.

Story
Judith Hampton was as beautiful as she was proud and loyal. Her dear Scottish friend from childhood was about to give birth, and Judith had promised to be at her side. But there was another reason for the journey from her bleak English home to the Highlands: to meet the father she had never known, the Laird Maclean. Nothing prepared her, however, for the sight of the Scottish barbarian who was to escort her into his land...Iain Maitland, laird of his clan, a man more powerfully compelling than any she had ever encountered.

Classic Story-Poor Narrator!!
Reviewed: 02-08-13
Any additional comments?
The story is a classic historical romance by Ms. Garwood. Unfortunately, I found the narrator to be VERY annoying! The vioce of Mary Francis never grew up and the voice of Ian was just scary! I think if she had read the story in her normal voice I would have liked it more. Hopefully for the sequal (Ransom) they use the already-recorded audio version by Rosalyn Landor. It is available in CD.

What about Adam Paul’s performance did you like?
I'VE READ SOME OF THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS ON MR. PAUL'S PERFORMANCE AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT ALL THE FUSS IS ABOUT. YES, CHANGE IS HARD FOR SOME PEOPLE. I, HOWEVER, FOUND MR. PAUL'S PERFORMANCE TO BE DIFFERENT BUT MOST ENJOYABLE. I HAD NO PROBLEM DISTINGUISHING WHO WAS TALKING BECAUSE MR. PAUL WAS ABLE TO VARY HIS VOICE AND ACCENTS. I DID NOT FIND HIS FEMALE VOICE TO BE IRRITATING AS SOME MALE AUDIO PERFORMANCES CAN BE. MR. PAUL WAS ABLE TO CONVEY THE SUSPENSE IN THE STORY AND ALSO THE TENDER MOMENTS. I HAVE ENJOYED MS. BANKS OTHER KGI BOOKS WITH HARRY BERKELEY AS NARRATOR. I AM EQUALLY PLEASE WITH MR. PAUL. WHO EVER READS MS. BANKS'S NEXT CHAPTER IN THE KGI SAGA, I WILL BE ONE OF THE FIRST TO PURCHASE IT!

GREAT BOOK IN THE SERIES--WHERE ARE THE REST???
Reviewed: 06-23-12
Where does Whispers in the Dark rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?
As a romantic suspense, this book is pretty good. I liked the premiss of the hero being held prisoner and during this difficult time, "hearing" support from the heroine in his head to get him through being held captive. The problem comes because this is book 4 in the series I have read all the books and enjoyed them. If you haven't read the other books, it harder (not imposible) to understand the relationships between the characters. Audible, please bring books 1 - 3 to your website!
Any additional comments?
Audible--please put all the books from the series on your website. Ask the publisher to provide you with books, 1, 2, 3 in the series. You did this with the sweet series as well. As I said before, it is hard to get involved in the characters when you only put out some of the books in a series.

WELL DONE MR. GREENBERG!
Reviewed: 04-18-12
Any additional comments?
I felt compelled to write this after reading a few reviews from people who did not like the narrator. I thought Mr.Greenberg did a fine job. He was able to handle the voices, especially those of the women and children. Sometimes narrators-especially male ones- have only one voice for all the women/children in the story, therefore, you can't tell who is speaking. With Mr. Greenberg, I was able to distinguish all the different characters well and I was able to get lost in the story.

AND SPEAKING OF HISTORICAL ROMANCES, HER LATEST CLASSIC AUDIOBOOK IS "THE PRIZE" THAT WAS RELEASED IN MP3 FORMAT ON 12/27. HOW COME AUDIBLE IS NOT CARRYING IT? IF YOU ARE A FAN OF JULIE'S CLASSIC HISTORICAL ROMANCE NOVELS, PLEASE WRITE AUDIBLE AND ASK THEM TO PUT IT ON THEIR SYSTEM! FYI--GENTLE WARRIOR IS DUE OUT MARCH 27. HOPEFULLY AUDIBLE GETS THEIR ACT TOGETHER BY THEN.
