Love all of Sharon Bolton’s books. I like how global warming tied into this story and how mental illness issues and homelessness are so current today.

Story
When the Iraq war began, conservationist Lawrence Anthony could think of only one thing: the fate of the Baghdad Zoo, caught in the crossfire at the heart of the city. Once Anthony entered Iraq, he discovered that hostilities and uncontrolled looting had devastated the zoo and its animals. Working with members of the zoo staff and a few compassionate U.S. soldiers, Anthony defended the zoo, bartered for food on war-torn streets, and scoured bombed palaces for desperately needed supplies.

Story
When Lawrence Anthony learned that the northern white rhino, living in the war-ravaged Congo, was on the very brink of extinction, he knew he had to act. If the world lost the sub-species, it would be the largest land mammal since the woolly mammoth to go extinct. In The Last Rhinos, Anthony recounts his attempts to save these remarkable animals. The demand for rhino horns in the Far East has turned poaching into a dangerous black market that threatens the lives of not just these rare beasts, but also the rangers who protect them.

Story
Sonia Sotomayor, the first Hispanic and third woman appointed to the Supreme Court of the United States, was a young girl when she dared to dream big. Her dream? To become a lawyer and a judge. Sonia did not let the hardships of her background - which included growing up in the rough housing projects of New York City's South Bronx, dealing with juvenile diabetes, coping with parents who argued and fought personal demons, and worrying about money - stand in her way. Always, she believed in herself. Her determination propelled her ever forward.

I really enjoyed the childhood memories of Sonia and how difficult it must have been to grow up in an alcoholic home. She is definitely an “overcomes” and an inspiration to us all.

Colleen and Darrel's Review of What Is The Bible?
Reviewed: 10-07-17
This book gives a new and refreshing way to read the Bible. The question why did they write this story, what was going on in history at that time, the religious beliefs and who was in political power at that time affected the writers. We will listen to more of Rob's books. Very thought provoking!
